If a person owns a car(just a roller) and a driver has all the drive train to go into the car. What is a fair split? Driver will finance the entire thing 100%( fuel,parts,tires,etc...) and maintain car. Is 50/50 fair or 75/25(drivers favor)? Not wanting to start any arguments just pondering an idea.

Fair split of what????Future expenses???Because you don't make any money racing! Those payouts will go right back in the car plus!

Fair split of purse money. It's not about making money or not.

I would say its not a black and white kind of decision. Just whatever the two parties can agree on I guess. Also some other variables in there like sponsor dollars. Maintenance vs. damage costs. Sometimes this stuff goes smoothly and sometimes people's feelings get hurt driving someone else's equipment. All parties need to be pretty clear on the agreements and should probably have something in writing.

here is what is more than likely the thing that is going to happen when you start mixing these two things together ..... the driver is going to have a wreck and smash up the car but since he don't own it and his engine and drive train isn't hurt he will expect you to work all week on "your chasis " so he can race his drive train and if you are lucky enough to find someone who actually gives a damn about what he did to your chasis he might show up to help you fix it, but don't hold your breath .i know more than a few people who have lost friends on these type of racing deals either sell him the car or buy the engine and transmission off of him or before you know it there will be bad blood and you will be jerking the drive train out and tossing it in the driveway. i had a friend who was here every day working on my car and i told him with a family i can't do this every day well his no good step mom made up a bunch of lies and told him, one night i came home from work and all shi# had hit the fan and since then his dad and her divorced seems she was nuts in the head!!!! but nobody would listen when i told them that. :P save yourself the heartache in my opinion. just a friendly opinion !

I had a ride once where I owned motor and car owner had everything else, he kept all winnings and paid for everything, I did all the work and upkeep, he basically just came to the track on race day.

In a perfect world both guys would work together on the car, dump all winnings and sponsor money back into the team, and everyone would be happy and have fun. You're racing to win, not make money. If every nickel that car makes isn't going back to the expenses, it won't work. That said, these teams like this almost always have a sour end.
