I hope I don't get ripped for asking a few questions about E mods on here. From what I can tell a 2 barrel carb, no quick change, and a few tracks say no lift bars ( what's a lift bar? ) are the main differences between an E mod and a econo mod.( plus a ton of money ) I also understand that your not allowed alot of work on the motors in the econo mods. The 602 crate motor seems like it would be a good motor for a econo mod? Any opinions...

go to clinton county on a friday night ( if they are still racing ?) and go into the pits there are a ton of those cars down there and i am sure they would be glad to answer your questions . but as for the 602 i know some of those cars down there are running 383's . good luck . i think vince laboon ran an e - mod and he gets on here i bet he can answer your questions .

My two cents.... Sharon Speedway has the best econo mod package out there. 362 CI engine limit, no aluminum heads. Stock 2 barrel carb. Hard RR tire. Steel shocks only with claim rule. No quick changes, 5:83 gear limit. A friend of mine bought my old emod and runs top 10 up there every week. If they had those rules at PPMS still I'd 100% be in one of them! I say no to the crate engines. Most emod guys can get their hands on a used 355 or 358 from other emods or pure stocks. I'd never spend $5-7K on a crate engine just for an econo mod. I'd build one with what we have laying around. What killed the emods was big motors and carbs, soft tires, and gas shock packages. The econo mod addresses these. Of course you can get a guy with a big money roller but at least you have a fighting chance with a rules package that represents what was truly the emod in the late 90's. Vince

Oh and not sure why a lift bar would be banned. I understand it helps with traction and requires another shock and spring but they're like $100. Basically the cost of a pull bar (both dampen the rear end loading the tires).

Thanks for your input guys, I'm new to dirt & econo-mods. I raced semi-lates on pavement "many" years ago, and now at age 50 I got the bug to try an throw some dirt....I always ran fords back then, but the mod I got is set up for a chevy motor and bert trans so thats what I'll be putting in it. Probably start out at Dearfield to get my feet wet on the dirt, and then maybe 7 & sharon.

My 2 cents not trying to make anyone mad or anything.... I race a 2brrl the only track that doesn't allow left bars is deerfield and for motor whys you would have to check the rules at the track because it depends on the brand of the motor for the cubic inch rule and my personally opinion I Would NOT go with a 602 for the fact that you have some guys building motor for these cars that are really good strong fast motors for what you would have in a crate motor but there are guys running them that are good and for deerfield I would go and watch first before taking my car out there

The whole purpose of a 602 rule is so that people don't build " good fast strong motors
"

your gonna love Deerfield. motor and tires are not an issue, anything half decent will return you a boat load of fun. and all the incidents you will get in wont automaticly put you on the trailer. 5.67 to 6.66 gear will get you there.
