Surprised there hasn't been any talk of this, since it was topical a little while ago. It was announced at the banquet that in 2014 there will be a minimum of 6 cars in the kings race. The highest in points not qualified for the race until the 6 car field is set.
Your thoughts?
Personally - I see it both ways. I hate any kind of provisionals.....a ticket to the kings race is earned, as it should be. The other side of the coin is, these races are looked forward to by the fans all season long and lets face it....a 2-4 car kings race isn't that exciting. The benefactors in 2013 would have been Anderson and Cole in the stocks. I don't think adding these 2 cars would have changed the outcome.
My idea for provisionals for the KOTQM.....
If the track champion is winless like there was this season, give him a spot in the kings.
Staying with the kings theme, my idea is a "princes" race the same night, for those not already qualified for the kings race. It would do a few things....namely guarantee the winner a spot in the kings race and reward those who have perfect attendance (regardless of point standings) by being eligible for the last chance, kings qualifier. Pay a couple hundred to the princes feature winner, winner take all. Take your provisionals from the finishing order of the princes race, if needed. I'd much rather race my way into the kings race than just be handed a pass due to points.
