A lot of racing at Lernerville last week and several changes in the top five in points in some classes. However, Dave Murdick and Rich Michael, Jr. held on to their top spots, although Steve Dixon forced a tie with Michael in the Limited Modified class.
Here are the "unofficial" Final Points for the top five in each class.
SPRINT CARS.........Jack Sodeman, jr. had the points clinched before Lernerville, but with his win in the Stampede Danny Holtgraver finished only 5 points behind Sodeman. Rounding out the top five are Carl Bowser, Eric Wiliams, Rod George and Brandon Matus, who moved to a tie for 5th with his 2nd place run Saturday.
LATE MODELS.........No position changes in the final race with Robbie Blair topping Mike Knight, Alex Ferree, Boom Briggs and Josh Richards.
MODIFIEDS............This one came right down to the wire as contenders Dave Murdick and Rex King, Jr. had pretty much a photo finish for 2nd Saturday. Murdick squeezed by King at the line to actually increase his winning margin from 6 to 9. Brian Swartzlander's victory pushed him from 6th to 3rd in the closely bunched points, with Chad Brachmann and Jim Weller rounding out the top five.
LTD MODIFIEDS........Max Blair had this won way back in August, but Mike Pegher, jr. took 2nd back from Ryan Montgomery at Lernerville after loosing it two weeks before at Pittsburgh. This is six straight years that Blair and Pegher have finished 1-2!! Rick Singleton, who missed the final weeks of the season due to injury, was 4th over Andrew Satterlee.
LTD MODIFIEDS........Rich Michael, Jr. went into the Lernerville race with a 9 point lead. but Steve Dixon won the race and the 9 points that went with it to force a tie. Rounding out the top five are Joel Watson, Cavalcade winner the past two years, Dave Hess, Jr. and Jonathan Taylor, who finished the season in a burst of glory with a big Pittsburgh victory and a second to Dixon at Lernerville. I was finally able to make contact with the PR guy at Bradford Speedway and the two "missing" races at that track were never run. There was just three E-Mod races at Bradford and Michael won them all.
LIMITED SPRINT CARS.........Third year driver and Clarion University student Michael Bauer won the points here by a 13 point margin with eight wins and 18 top three finishes along with point titles at both Mercer & Sportsmans. The rest of the top five are Mike Miller, who moved up with a 2nd at Lernerville, Jimmy Morris, winner last year, Joe McEwen and C. J. Jones.
STOCK CARS......Chris Withers wins the points for the second straight year with 13 victories and 23 top three finishes. However, with his win Saturday Chris Schneider jumped all the way from 6th to 2nd in the close standings. Rounding out the top five are Andy Michael, Steve Kania and Ryan Scott.
I have started my annual "Audit" of all the points and until that is competed for each class, these points will remain "unofficial". When dealing with around 25 tracks and seven classes this is quite time consuming, so it won't be finished in the next couple of weeks!! With a running count of points through the season, there are bound to be a couple of errors and I usually find such. But mostly for just a point or two for a missed race and seldom do they ever change the standing more than one position.
This is my 41st year of doing the points, starting in 1973 when writing for the old CAVALCADE OF AUTO RACING magazine. The whole reason behind the points is to give credit to the drivers circuit wide who have had the best season in any given year. In late November I expect to start my resumes of each class in AREA AUTO RACING NEWS.
GOOD RACING TO ALL!!!!!

Is there a site for the Cavalcade Points? Someplace that explains the points system? Lists the rest of the drivers in the points? I searched for quite a while with no luck. Thanks

I have no website....too high-tech for this old phart!!! Regular points are 3-2-1 for top three in feature events. Double, triple and more points for higher paying races. Points only for top three in features and no points for heats.
