A tech man, worth anything at all can pump a motor.it'll tell you exactly how many cubes it is.

if they know how to use the pump. i've seen instances where a 396 pumped out to a 372....

They teched most every car last year; I am cetain that if someone was stretching the engine rule; it would show up really quick. I think Jake told me he had less than 4,000.00 in his engine built by a very reputable engine builder; I had less than 1500.00 each in all three of our engines, assembled in my basement. This is a very affordable engine package. The first engine we used was borrowed from a pure stock owner and it was less than the pure stock rules allow. The engine is only one part of what keeps a class affordable; eliminating the lightweight assembly parts from suspension and the shock limitations are huge in reducing the costs. We all see what it takes to run a competitive Crate car; the lightened rear ends, the lightened hubs; low friction bearings/seals etc, equal thousands of dollars per cornner.

The 602 I ran had three full seasons on it and is still a decent motor for the class. I feel we did well there running one the class will grow as long as the rules are enforced

i'd really like to get into one of these cars. i feel like with the money some of these teams are sinking into their street stocks and even some of the pure stocks, this class would honestly be the cheapest to build, race, and be competitive in.

I have a 2010 Bullitt complete roller for sale with a ton of spare parts just add a motor and trans and go racing

i agree the semi class will go, bet it doubles this year and i believe many more the following year. 5 year committment at clinton county raceway. promotor Mike Evock told me that. jeff taylor stated 3 years. going to add [spoilers ] to the rules.

Jake,Jeff spoke with Mike the new promoter at Clinton County and they will be cross promoting their tracks. There will be more info coming shortly. This is how tracks are supposed to work together.Jeff has built a good working relationship with CNB Raceway and now with Clinton County.Lets hope that other tracks can work together like these guys. And as far as the three year deal with the semi's I think that has been forgotten. That class is going to be a huge success.

would be sweet if clinton county picked up the crate mods every other week now to give them a double as well

You can build alot of power with the engine rules as posted. Any carb and any iron head even with the .500 lift at the valve rule should easily allow 500 or more horsepower on gas.

street stocks have been looking like late models for years. take a look at some of the pro-1 cars. only way you can tell the difference, is whether they have wide 5's, or stock bolt patterns. they need to go back to the way they used to be to be able to tell the difference, STOCK appearing BODIES! not noses, or tail pieces. the WHOLE body. i think they looked way better then anyway. in my opinion, i think a stock 80's monte carlo body with a bit of a chop to the roof looks really cool!

Couldn't agree more

i believe port royal would benifit using amp rules rather than the 1 track rule they just made in limited late models. you now have 2 tracks with exactly same rules for semi lates and supers right square in the middle of pennsylvania! hope somebody would consider the change for the racers sake at port as well. 3 tracks would be really great with exactly the same rules.

I haven't looked at the Port rules yet. Did they go with more of silver spring 358 rule?

looks to me like port has silver springs rules with a 2bbl and special weights rules for different engine combos A.) A.) The total weight of the car with the driver will be 2,250 pounds if a crate 602 GM engine is used; 2,350 pounds if a non-crate engine is used; and 2,400 pounds if a dry-sump motor is used with 50 pounds of the weight located at or in front of the mid-plate. Maximum weight for all cars without driver will be 2,550

There was a conversation between AMP and The Port, they thought Jeff did not go far enough with the engine rules and wanted him to change to their rules. It just did not happen.

the camshaft rule really works. i built a good 358 with aluminum 23 degree heads. but the 602 crates were just as fast down the straight stretch. you can buy a 602 for just under 4000.00 . my next semi will have a 602 crate. my thoughts on the port royal cars are that its a tech mans night mare. they should have considered silver springs or amp rules exactly. hope they do well!

I think you are right on, 450 to 500 with the cam/rocker rule. Actually use stock cast crank and rods decent rod bolts and replace it every year, pretty cheap and light.

So this is what I mean, if a guy wants to run a 602 in this class, he is already down on power compared to the 358..

Mash the loud pedal.

Then they should build an engine for less or the same money which will provide him the extra HP within the rules. In every race division from the highest to the lowest levels there are ways to gain an advantage if you wish to spend the money. If someone really wanted to provide a big competitve edge in this class; they would buy and 8 inch rear, low friction suspension parts, 007 hubs and have a shock builder assemble a set of shocks for the class. This would cost far more than putting a competitive 358 or 362 for that matter together.

I will sell an engine that won two features and got 3 seconds and one dnf, the last 6 weeks at AMP for $2,000.00, it has approximatley 125 laps on it. It is more than competitive in the division, I sold one for $1,200.00 that was very competitive as well.

So this is what I mean, if a guy wants to run a 602 in this class, he is already down on power compared to the 358..

I like the fact that teams have a choice in regards to the engine. Build one or buy a crate. I'm sure that as the class continues to develop, if either the crate or the open engines start to dominate, adjustments can be made to level the field. PS: Now we need a track to start a non-winged sprint car division with the same type of rules as the semi-lates.......
