FASTRAK takes a strong stand against “blue printed” Engines!!
**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE** November 26th, 2013 FASTRAK PR
(Carnesville, Georgia) – The FASTRAK Racing Series is taking a strong stance against the “so called” blue printed engines that keep being built by some of the engine builders within and outside the series. “Enough is enough” said Stan Lester of the series. “Some builders have gotten completely out of hand. I’ve asked and asked again and again and unfortunately they refuse to adhere to the policies therefore we are not renewing some of the builders contracts. I hate its come to this but no one can say they were not warned”.
All or most of the so called “blue printed” parts out there that have been marketed in crate engines are nothing more than marketing ploys and tricks. Think about it. There’s nothing to can do and stick to the rules other than take five thousands off a head and five thousands off the block. That being the case, where did the so called 20 HP come from? If ANY BUILDER tells you they can get you another 20 HP, you better run and fast as you can and find someone that will tell you the truth. Now I am not saying there’s probably not a engine now and again you might could straighten cylinders etc, etc and gain several HP. That would be called a lemon and just bringing it back to specs. I would venture to say that’s the exception, not the rule”.
ALL BUILDERS know well that they are not supposed to take a brand new engine apart and build it. WHY? Some people refuse to stop doing that too. If one of our teams has taken a new engine, torn it apart and had it so called blue printed, you might want to demand your money back. Crate engine racing is supposed to be about lowering the price of engines, but when people start charging $7500 to $10,000 for a $5500 engine. Something is wrong and that does nothing to help racing at all”.
“I’ve heard blue printed springs, blue printed lifters, blue printed almost everything. It might be called a matched set, but it sure isn’t what I call “blue printed” where they pay 3-5 times what it’s actually worth. Our teams have been paying for things that aren’t true. People were warned, but refused to listen so we took action. I refused to sit back and allow our teams to be taken advantage of. It’s the series responsibility to monitor things and that’s exactly what we are doing”.
Our “authorized” engine builders list will continue to be updated each week. Please don’t ask us to point out anyone in particular. We try to run a little more classy business than that. This is not an attempt to damage anyone in particular, but rather do our job of keeping the integrity within the series.”
2014 is certainly going to be BIGGER and more EXCITING than the 2013 race season. That’s all we can say for now but there’s a lot of things into works even before the end of the year. Your only about 3 or 4 years late on this rule! Must be why one certain builder moved to different series
I stole this from Hendren Racing engines FB page. It's an answer to someone who asks about what Fastrak is saying. Good reading......And well said!
Absolutely Randy. Basically what it comes down to is this.......Certain people don't have a clue what the term “blue print” means, so they treat it as taboo. They consider it so taboo, that 5 years ago a certain series banned their engine builders from using this term publically. The irony of this ban, on a term, is the fact that any time a crate engine is rebuilt, it’s blue printed. Since the launch of the 602, 603, and 604 engines, GM has issued a yearly Circle Track Crate Engine Technical Manual....Part number 88958668. This is the Blue Print (in writing) that each engine builder must go by. This manual contains every engine spec for all three crate engines that I’ve mentioned. So when a crate engine is taken apart, as engine builders, we must go by these specs and insure that each engine that we work on remains within the specifications given to us by GM.
As an example, when we perform a valve job on a set of cylinder heads, GM has specific guidelines for valve seat angles, seat diameters, etc. So we must stay within these parameters. So what this is called and known as throughout the industry, is blue printing. However we have not been able to use this term for 5 years now. So every engine builder within this certain series has made up their own term to avoid using the term “blue print”. Some now call it “precision machining”, “machine to spec”, “machine to tolerance”, etc. But the bottom line is, the term “blue print” is nothing more than a term to describe building something within spec, which is exactly what every crate engine builder does each time an engine is taken apart. I’m quite confident in the fact that anyone with the least bit of common sense can understand this. Unfortunately certain people have created a big “to do” about nothing, in order to make it appear as though they care. When in reality they are simply giving false information to the public, because that’s the only “big news” they can fabricate at the moment. It’s sad really.
As for power gain’s from “blue printing”, I’ll tell you exactly what I tell many callers each day of the week who ask the same question. If you have an engine that now produces 395hp-400hp at the rear tires, I MIGHT pick you up 5hp by going through your engine and making sure everything is to spec. But if you own a turd, that wont get out of it’s own way, then odds are I’ll make you equal to one that runs good. There are only so many thing’s we can do inside the engine, so most of the power gains end up coming from the whole combination of engine, exhaust, carb, spacer, air cleaner housing, air cleaner, fuel, etc. This is the stuff that we continuously test on our own house car in order to stay ahead of the competition. This is the information that I give to every customer that we have, so they can be damn sure when they show up at a race, they have as much or more than the guy next to them. This is one reason why my car is kept at my business, so I can show people that if it’s bolted on my car, it makes power, and isn’t there to look pretty. I hope this answered your questions....
