I'd like to know the backround of Mickey Banas...what did he do for a living, things like that. While a teenager growing up in lovely Wilkinsburg  I watched Gus at Jennerstown. I told my landlord Mike Sherba( a former promoter of Latobe Speedway, I think) that I thought Gus was the best. Mike said Dick was even better!

Great question. Was there an insurance agency involved somehow? Gus won his last feature at Lincoln on May 27, 1972. That must have been the year that Mickey died. He must have been a great mechanic.

Just in case you haven't read this...get on hoseheads.com...scroll down to columns....see Pastor Dudley Balmer's column. Lots of info on older PA racers and an article on Gus.

That may have been his last win at Lincoln but I don't believe it was his last feature win. Time to search my photo albums again.

Why do I like racing ? Well the colors are bright and there is a lot of movement, so it holds my attention.

Gus was second in points to Dale Johnson at Blanket Hill in 1963, ten years prior to that win at Lincoln. Talk about the good old days.
