The Penn/Ohio Pro Stock Championship series is pleased to announce that the 3rd annual Ed Laboon Memorial scheduled May 31st at Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway will now be part of the inaugural Pro Stock Championship season. Ed’s son Vince contacted Shaun Hooks following the announcement of the series and wanted to be involved “I think the series is a great opportunity to showcase the class and I thought having my dad’s race as part of it was a perfect fit“ noted Vince “I think it will be one of the showcase events for the series in 2014, especially since it’s at Pittsburgh, one of my dad’s favorite racetracks” Ed Laboon was a longtime local competitor around western Pennsylvania competing in the sportsman and semi late classes. He lost his battle with cancer in 2012 and within a couple of weeks Vince had organized the first memorial race at Pittsburgh paying $1000 to win plus lap money. Vince is busy preparing for his upcoming wedding, but hopes to run for the inaugural championship this year. This year’s event will pay $2,000 to win, $200 to start and will be a 20 lap feature event. If you have questions or would like to sponsor the 3rd annual Ed Laboon memorial, contact Vince by email at racer17v@yahoo.com or by phone at (412) 396-9138. Racers working together, giving back to our sport is something we always want to be a part of at PPMS. The Ed Laboon event is one of my personal favorites at PPMS”
Although the new Penn/Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series has only recently been announced, the support and reaction has been extremely positive. Hooks, a veteran of the stock car class, who is heading up the series has been busy fielding questions from interested drivers along with speaking to various race tracks and sponsors. “I have had calls from race tracks, drivers from all over including Western New York, and sponsors who all want to be part of the series,” noted Hooks. “The response has been overwhelming. I am finishing up a few accounting matters for the series and will soon have a registration process ready to go for drivers. Our facebook page is up and running (www.facebook.com/pennohioprostocks) as well as an e-mail address for the series (info@pennohioprostocks.com). The web site will be up shortly and we will be posting procedures for the series as well as announcing a schedule in the near future”
