Rodney Daye passed away Thursday. He was well known during the glory days of the six cylinder modifieds at Mercer Raceway. He worked on many cars, and I believe was involved in ownership of the #8 Jim Bickel drove. Rodney also maintained the crate late model Frankie Guidace won the point Championship at Mercer.

Rod knew how to work on a motor. He built the motor for my dad's race car and fixed the fuel pump in my truck years ago. If you had a problem Rod knew how to fix it. Not many people left with the amount of knowledge he had. RIP Rod

Rod was a great guy and a genius with anything mechanical. Between engines, berts, quick changes and setups he was responsible for most of the Mercer guys success . He built six cylinder, sportsman and 358 modified engines and could make any engine run to its potential. More importantly he was a husband and a father and a friend to many. He was one of a kind and will be missed. In a world full of posers, Rod was a mans man. Rest in Peace.
