The "olde" small track with drivers like Henry Jacoby, Ron Anderson, Dale Johnson, Gus Linder , Jerry Matus , Steve Ungar, Ed Murphy, Don Wigton, Rich Bonnell, Dick Cotterman and Steve Travers. B) Owners like The Crash Brothers, George Waclaski, Mickey Banas , Don Stover, John Matus, and Oren Preston. :) To the mix add in Jack West, Al Cubic, Mel Tuck, Frank Semerod and others. And being able to leave after the sprint car feature, get on Route 62 and still be able to catch some of the features at Mercer on the way home. Talk about the " good olde days. " :D

Those names bring back a lot of great memories. There is on driver I didn't see on your list that came to mind and that was Buddy Martin and the circle 2 Offenheuser powered sprint car. I think he used to come down from New York but that was a long time ago , this old memory isn't as sharp as it used to be. Thanks for listing those names it brings back memories from a long time ago.

Not sure where Buddy was from, but the Circle 2 Offenhauser was from Worthville, PA. Owned by George Shaffer.

Pretty sure Buddy Martin was from Parma, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. Pretty sure I have a photo of the car. Walt

I have only been to the track a handful of times and it was from around 2002-2008. I always enjoyed the hour and 10 minute drive from the northern Pittsburgh suburbs to see some racing on Sunday Evenings and still being able to be home by 10:30 or so. Also when it was nice to see some of the BRP Modified Tour Races there and you would get some guys from New York that would come down and run so the opportunity to see some different cars was always there. It seems like with the PR that they have been doing as well as obtaining some sponsorship will seem to go along way with getting the track successful.

As a teenager back in the 70's we would sit down on a grass bank in turn 3 with ihe track in front of us and the pit road just feet behind us. It's a wounder we didn't get killed, I rember Buddy Chochran flipping right in front of us over the fence and rolling down the bank, many tires bouncing uncontrollably our way, that would never happen in todays world but that helped me get addicted to the speed of TriCity!

You are probably right Walt . you go back a long way writing and announcing races so you would remember. Thanks for your contributions to the racing community all these years.

Your story of sitting in turn 3 reminds me of a time not too long after they built the new track when 3 young guys were sitting on the bank off of turn 3 and when we saw them we warned them they were in a bad place , but they said they were good we just said ok go for it , when the sprints hot lapped they went down like 3 ducks in a row , they weren't seriously injured but they got their bell rung.

Maybe I was one of the three. I use too sit there as well. Well at least then I would have had an excuse for buying a race track.
LOL
