When Shaun Hooks announced that the inaugural season of the Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series would have a guaranteed $5,000 point fund, the racing community took immediate notice. Now, less than two (2) months later Hooks is pleased to annouce that due to overwhelming support from drivers, race tracks and sponsors, the point fund is nearing $10,000. "I continue to be amazed at the interest and outpouring of support for this series" noted Hooks. "Almost daily I receive calls from either a driver, a race track or a potential sponsor and we have so many exciting announcements to make in the near future about races, driver commitments and additional sponsors."

The series is in negotiations with several race tracks and will have a full schedule announced very soon. "I am trying not to conflict with any local race tracks schedule, which will allow the maximum number of drivers to run for our first championship. We are continuing our quest for a title sponsor and welcome anyone who would like to contribute to the series. I want the series to last for many years to come and continue to grow. As a long time racer in this division, I know these racers and teams deserve some of the spotlight they have been lacking over the previous years"

Five race dates have already been confirmed for Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway, Sharon Speedway and Mercer Raceway Park and the series is close to announcing the additional five dates that will make up our committed ten (10) race dates. Several sponsors have already added cash and/or product to the series to enhance the guaranteed cash to be given away.

In addition to announcing a full schedule within the next few weeks, the website will be updated with a list of drivers who have committed to run the entire series. Driver registrations are currently being accepted, and a driver registration form is available on the website or by calling Shaun Hooks at (724) 730-1623. The registration fee is $500.00 and goes directly into the point fund. Registrations received after April 15th will increase to $600.00 and will be accepted right through the first race at Pittsuburgh on May 31st. "I want everyone to know who has shown support for this series that we are working daily to insure the series is successful the first year and that I truly appreciate the support and interest everyone has shown us. The series needs all this support so it can continue to grow and be successful not only this year but for years to come."

The Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series will feature at least 10 events located in Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania at various tracks utilizing the tracks rules and format. Registered Drivers for the series will receive points towards the year end championship with a guaranteed $5,000 point fund. Additional Sponsorships and contingency program opportunities are still available. Is this the same series Allegheny Motor Speedway is saying they have 5 dates with them? Logo looks the same but schedule says Penn/Ohio Champion Streetstock Series.

I have always wanted to see what a pure stock "series" could do, I hope it works out great, I love a big field of them. One question/concern.... That $500.00 and $600.00 registration fee is a little much I would think. What exactly does that entail, it says it goes into the points fund, but where is all the other money going to? It just seems like a lot for some Stock drivers to be able to afford with their racing budget. Wish you much success and cant wait for the Ed Laboon race as its becoming a Crown Jewel of Western PA.

I'm sure Shaun or his PR guy will respond here, but I'm not sure how much they are on here. My understanding is 100% of the registration fees get paid out through the points fund. It was supposed to be top 10, not sure if that will change with 20+ drivers now. These drivers are also eligible for additional payouts from the track's purse- ie I think the top 3 POPSS finishers get extra money per event, along with other contingency sponsor prizes. I look at it this way- if you attend 10-15 races with a $40 entry fee, it costs the same, you're just paying it up front and you are eligible to earn all of it back and then some. (I don't know what tracks will still charge an entry fee per race for their own purse, just using entry fees as an example of what it costs to run big races anyway).
