(New Castle, PA) As the weather finally starts to turn towards spring and the mall shows are getting everyone in the mood for racing, Shaun Hooks, director of the Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series is pleased to announce the schedule for the inaugural year of the series. Starting out with just an idea for the Stock Car Class, the series has quickly grown with in excess of 15 drivers committed to the 10 events, and a point fund that has grown in excess of the original guaranteed $5,000, and is nearing $10,000. “I still am amazed at the support and growth of the series” stated Hooks “When it was just an idea, you never know what others will think, but I am more than pleased with the schedule, the driver and sponsor support and I can’t wait till our first event at Pittsburgh” The series will kick off Saturday, May 31 at Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway with the Ed Laboon Memorial which will pay $2,000 to win. The series will shift to Conneaut, Ohio’s Raceway 7 for an event on Friday, June 13th, and then two nights later visit Eriez Speedway in Erie, PA for a Sunday event on June 15th. The series will then shift back to Ohio for a race Thursday, July 10th at the Fairgrounds in Cortland, Ohio for a daytime race at Expo. On Sunday, July 13th, the racers will invade Mercer Raceway Park (Mercer, PA) for the first of two visits to the facility in 2014, followed by a second visit on Sunday. August 24th. As the summer begins to wind down, the Penn Ohio Championship Series will conclude its campaign with a pair of weekend shows, the first at Sharon Speedway (Harford, Ohio) for the annual Apple Festival Nationals on Friday & Saturday, September 12th and 13th. Each night will be a full show. The series will conclude and crown a champion at the annual Stampede event at Lernerville Speedway (Sarver, PA) on October 23-25th with Thursday set for practice, Friday qualifying heats and Saturday B-Mains and the Feature. One additional date is being negotiated for August 9th and an announcement will be made with details over the next few days. “I wanted to get the schedule out so everyone knows where and when these events will be taking place. I encourage any drivers who want to take a shot at the championship to give me a call and get registered now. We plan to get a list of registered drivers together and get it posted so everyone can see that the best in the class have committed to run for our first championship” stated Hooks. “Any driver who wants to register can pay ½ off the registration fee now ($250.00) and the other half ($250) by the first race at Pittsburgh, as I know everyone is paying to get their cars ready to race.” The Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series will feature at least 10 events located in Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania at various tracks utilizing the tracks rules and format. Registered Drivers for the series will receive points towards the year end championship with a guaranteed $5,000 point fund. Additional Sponsorships and contingency program opportunities are still available. I don't want to speak for anyone, but my understanding is that these series races don't pay more due to this series. They are already special events and the series just piggybacks the events and pays a point fund at the end of the year. If there is additional money added to individual event purses please correct me. I haven't seen that anywhere.

Since there are some tracks added that some guys have never run, and may or may not match up to typical Sharon/mercer open shows, maybe supply links to rules for each event or some quick references of things guys are going to have to change if they plan on running every event. Adding weight is no biggie, but if guys need 8" tires and 2 barrels it's going to take an early heads up.

Nope. I think you hit it spot on. I cant believe drivers are doing this. 500 dollars seems a bit excessive to me to try to make a Sunday and Thursday show. And all of these Special races are historically very destructive on equipment. And I also heard that the only way to get that 500 back at the end of the year is to attend all of those races. Correct me if I am wrong. The TOTAL point fund is around 10000. Still only what, maybe 1500-2000 for the champ? But, nonetheless, good luck to all drivers that participate.

2 races within 3 days and 1, 3 hrs from Pittsburgh .. that's unfortunate those had to be booked so close together

Most better stock car teams travel to these better paying shows anyways so why wouldn't you get in the series for a chance to 4~5x your money. There are no rule problems the races are all when the tracks use the open rules format. So once again, every sanctioning body i know of the bottom feeders loose money and the top teams make it. So please do explain to us all how this is different.

If anyone running the series from the southern area has any mechanical issue i would be more then happy to offer my garage/ tools to anyone that may need help. We are 35 to rw7 and 60 min to eriez. We also plan to have a bon fire that Saturday night if anyone would like to join us.

I absolutely agree it's a great series. Common rules at all tracks is what is needed. That's great. And as Tim said above, I don't think anyone needs to worry about issues when traveling. There are some damn good people who travel in that class that would give all but their own car to a competitor go help them get on the track. I think the only criticism has been from people who have nothing to do with a stock car or never intended to travel anyway. The open stock shows are usually a huge success anyway. I like that it's a choice. If you don't want to run the full series, just race the dates you want and there's nothing to complain about. Same as always. This is just a group that runs them all throwing a little extra in for a chance at some bigger winnings.

As simple as I can put it, they have races scheduled on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. This immediately eliminates drivers that run for points at Lernerville, Sharon, Mercer, etc... The only cars that will attend are basically the only cars that wont be legal at those tracks. Rusty Martz, Chris Sneider (spelling), etc. Other drivers wont give up the points week, no matter how good they are. And I agree with DavyLee. A race on a Sunday at Eriez? There are a lot of good drivers that will deter from this program because of that race. That is a tough race to try to make knowing the distance, work the next morning, and the high chance of getting torn up at that track.

I am not disagreeing, sundays will be hard for some. Just take a couple minutes and actually look at how many guys really support there local track and run every night for points. Top 3~5 at best. Some will follow and some wont. But why criticize for at least getting the series started...it is not perfect. Its better then what we had..

I understand where you are coming from. I am criticizing it but more to help it out and point out flaws. I don't believe I am degrading the idea of the series. If it sounds like that, I apologize. But to talk about your point, the best drivers at Lernerville focus on points. That could be about 5-6 per year with a chance at the title. Moore and Bish from Mercer are top contenders that go for points. But maybe they will change it up? Ive only been to Sharon once or twice so I cant really comment on those competitors. The Pittsburgh guys like the 60, 17, and 08 as well. I would really like to see a list of the cars that have signed up for the series. Im guessing most aren't from this Pittsburgh area. Its a shame. We have/had some great stock drivers here the past couple years

What else can you do to avoid running on points nights? No one honestly expects them to run Monday-Thursday. This is a series that will benefit drivers that run the open shows. And a few tracks already coordinate with surrounding tracks to not run stocks against their open "special" shows.
