what a shame. indeed sad news. i would never stick my kid in a 4 cyl. racecar, that doesn't have a full frame. these front wheel racecars need to go! if you want to teach a kid how to race put em in a go kart then move onto a charger \ amatuer car that is rear wheel drive, what are they learning in a front wheel drive car that pushes around a track? now tracks let adults race with kids in these cars, that's asking for trouble !

All kids should have to wear head and neck restraint's, bottom line........ it does not matter what they race, they should have to wear all the safety equipment to try and keep them safe.

This is a sad event that has occurred and while it is not a bad idea for any racer, not just kids to have all the available and appropriate safety equipment there is a larger problem at hand. If you get Speedway Illustrated there is a good story on page 28 that really sums up a lot of the problem; people building cars that don't have the knowledge or skillset to build them. Poor welds with no penetration, roll cages welded to a sheet metal body which offers no strength, improperly mounted seats and belts. Safety is often the last thought when racers are building these cars. The tracks have a level of responsibility for these tragedies as well as tracks do not properly tech cars for safety. It is only a matter of time before a track is sued when a situation like this occurs. While we all sign a release at the track, all tracks have safety rules in their rule packages, those safety rules give them a level of responsibility and liability to the racers at their tracks. When a racer is injured racing a car that has "passed tech" but upon further inspection, post crash, was found to be inadequately built in terms of safety; liability could be placed on the tech crew employed by the track. While I don't know the specific circumstances of this incident, in racing, safety is often sacrificed in every division and the compacts are certainly no exception to that.
