[T-440]

Saw this on the CNB Raceway Park website.  I'd love to see a few late model give it a try:

 

Next event after the June 14th Race is a Dirt Open Special SUNDAY JUNE 22nd 

We are inviting all dirt cars from AMP, Hummingbird, Marion Center and Dog Hollow for an open race on the asphalt on Sunday, June 22nd. Late Models, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks & 4 Cyls. This is a DIRT ONLY show - no asphalt cars. 

• Rules are that they must be legal for the track that they list as their home track.  We will use weight to level the playing field. More info on tires and payout to follow.

• There will be an open practice at NO COST to all dirt racers on Friday Nite, June 20th, from 5pm 'til dark.

• Pit passes will be $30/person for this event ONLY.

Put the dirt back on the track and the dirt cars will come. Its kind of sad that you have to invite dirt cars to an asphalt track to get cars. I know some people wont like this post but I couldn't resist. It seems like common sense the place was always packed when they had dirt on it.

I think it's cool that CNB management is hosting this type of event. I like all kinds of cars on all kinds of surfaces.

 

The Keystone Open in the mid-90's was a riot and 2013's had some great racing as well. Tom Scott and Randy Sterling were flying.

Just curious- if it would be so successful w dirt why did it close? Obviously not because it was making money hand over fist??? Bailey never planned it to be a weekly track- mostly driver development and big races. Traveling two hours - where most of today's asphalt guys are- with 2 other tracks to choose from- yeah that makes good sense. Wake up man- dirt would never make it there again except for big events. Keep dreamin and pissin and moanin.

I agree, if the track was dirt again, it wouldn't do any better on a weekly basis than any of the other tracks up here.  It didn't draw huge crowds and car counts on weekly basis when it was dirt this last time.  The specials however, for the most part drew really good crowds and car counts.  There were a few disappointing nights, but most of the specials drew very well, even without a lot of local team support.  Towards the end, there were only a couple of local late model teams competing at the shows.  I think the track could be pretty profitable as a specials only dirt track.  The large seating capacity + the hill side parking makes it one of the few tracks in our area capable of hosting some big events. 

 

I admire what the current promoters are trying to do, and I try to make it to all the shows I can up there, but we are three years into the new asphalt age, and things aren't improving.  Even when the teams come to race, there just aren't that many fans there to watch.

Honest question... Since the dirt was taken off; has there been a show even comparable to the average dirt show there? Im talking about support from race teams and the "paying customer".

I personally dont think it would make it as a weekly track either. But, it was killing it when it came to specials. There just no denying that. I was there for every dirt show. It was a packed house for all but a few shows. Thats why most of the fan base is upset that the dirt was taken back off.

The asphalt supporters are correct. It's not our track so our opinions are just that, opinions. The owners can do whatever the hell they want to with their property. But it sure doesnt look very promising at this point.

because baineys pulled the rug out from under everyone...they let it go over the winter till the track was in sad shape and then boom "it's unrepairable" but yet they could tear off all the dirt and pave it in under a month

I dont think they repaved it it was just the old asphalt that was under there the first time and yes the track could have been fixed when the dirt was washed off of it in the corners  i mean you hauled all the dirt in there to put on the whole track how hard is it to haul two or three more trucks in to fix some washouts ,but like kip said it is not our track and the new leasee will soon find out the long haul is longer than he thinks it is when you are going broke trying to revive a long dead sport in this area .as long as this guy  don't own it  danny russell pulls the strings on the place .make it more like hesston size or dog hollow size and tighten up the corners  you will see your cars come back.

I"ve been to every dirt show,as long as I can remember,up there. STARS had a race there,with the dirt cars. I think, late 80's. I think Larry Moore won. I'm sure there were asphalt cars in the mix.  I always thought that place could have been,the next Challenger. with specials only. Fall Fest, up there, would be huge.   JMO  Of course,Larry Moore could drive anything,anywhere
