It's important to note the Rob scheduled this for a Sunday. Big horsepower dirt cars on a smooth surface with lots of grip makes for a fun time. Hose 'em off from Friday or Saturday and come try something different!

I"ve been to every dirt show,as long as I can remember,up there. STARS had a race there, with the dirt cars. I think, late 80's. I think Larry Moore won. I'm sure there were asphalt cars in the mix. I always thought that place could have been, the next Challenger. with specials only. Fall Fest, up there, would be huge. JMO Of course,Larry Moore could drive anything, anywhere
Black Jack Boggs won that race. I still have pics from victory lane.

I found 2 STARS races at Clearfield ... June 6,1985 won by Jack Boggs and the other was July 15,1989 won by Larry Moore. When was it paved? I've lost track !!!!

If my memory serves me well I think it was paved for the 1986 season.
86 sounds right. I crewed on a car in 87 on the asphalt and it wasn't the first year.

Clearfield was paved in 86 and Jennerstown was paved the next year in 87.

Are there going to be used tires available for free or a small fee to encourage the guys to give it a try? Minimal changes to these cars is what the drivers desire. I remember how fast the dirt cars were in 1986 when they raced there and I could not believe how far Tom Merryman drove his car into the turns before he lifted off the gas, thought for sure he was going to hit the wall but he did not. Larry Moore was the winner of the race and it helped that he did have a lot of asphalt experience and he was very fast.

Airborne Speedway in New York, Devil's Bowl Speedway in Vermont and Mahoning Speedway out in the eastern part of Pennsylvania all run dirt modifieds on pavement with dirt tires. They use the extra hard tires that are really only used on dirt at Syracuse.
