Pittsburgh, PAs Danny Holtgraver picked up his 5th career PPMS in the 20 Lap Sprint Car special. Holtgraver, fresh off a win at Eldora, grabbed the lead at the start, with Carl Bowser behind and pair set a torrid pace lapping thru 8th place. The real battle was from 3-6 between Brandon Spithaler, A.J. Flick, Danny Smith and Jack Sodeman. Smith ended up third with sprint rookie Flick an impressive fourth, his best finish so far in the sprints, followed by Brandon Spithaler, Sodeman Jr., Brandon Matus, Ralph Spithaler, Adam Kekich, and Lance Moss. The track record was lowered three times during the evenings events with the new mark being 15:530 144.881 MPH by Jack Sodeman Jr. The heats for the 21 cars on hand went to Jack Sodeman Jr., Carl Bowser and Danny Smith.
In the Diehl of Robinson Super Late Models, 62 year old Saxonburg, PA resident Ed Ferree picked up his first win since 2002 and was the sixth different winner in the class. While the field was on the short side, the feature was exciting. Dave Murdick grabbed the lead at the start of the 25 lapper. For the first half of the event Murdick looked strong, like he might grab his first ever PPMS Late Model win. But as the race entered its second half, the field tightened up with Jim Stephans now challenging Murdick. Ferrees car seemed to get better as the race continued in the non-stop affair, he was challenging both Stephans and Murdick by lap 16. On lap 18 Ferree made his move getting by both and pulled away. The race now was for second between Murdick and Stephans, and the pair was joined by Alex Ferree, who spent most of the first half battling four fourth with Ben Miley and John Mollick. On lap 24 Alex Ferree was able to get by both Murdick and Stephens to end up second. At the finish it was Ed Ferree, Alex Ferree, Murdick, Stephans, Ben Miley, Mollick, Derek Stefanick, and Tom Bateman Jr. Both Colton Flinner (who hit the wall while he was leading his heat) and Bill Yohe did not start. Ferrees win was his 33rd career PPMS win and made him the oldest driver to win in the Late Model division. Alex Ferree and John Mollick won the heats.
Precise Racing Products RUSH Pro Late Models Feature, Saltsburg, PAs Andrew Wylie made his second start of the season a winning one and picked up his second career win. Wylie started on the pole and led the entire distance, but it was far from an easy win. The race started off with a bang, with Daryl Charlier, last weeks winner Cody McPherson, Tony White and Paul Jabo Jablonski, tangling on the backstraight, sending Charliers #88 hard into the UTE tire at the pit entrance. Charlier was OK. Jablonski and McPherson were able to continue. On the restart Wylie grabbed the lead and was challenged early by WoO Sprint driver Tim Schaffer, making one of his occasional Crate starts. Nico Dabecco who started 8th charged thru the field and caught Wylie in the closing laps. On the last lap Dabecco pulled even coming for the checker, but Wylie was able to hold him off and finished 0.045 ahead of Dabecco. Schaffer had his best ever run in the Crates taking third followed by Tommy Schirnhofer, Mark Moats Jr., Jason
Rider, Josh Holtgraver, Russ Kolesar, Mike Reft, and Ben Policz. Mark Moats Jr. and Josh Holtgraver won the Rush heats. Last weeks winner Cody McPherson charged up from the tail from his first lap mishap, to fifth, and looked as if he may have had something for the leaders, had a rear suspension failure and dropped out. NYs Chad Ruhlman made his first start of the season, but hit the wall in his heat and was done for the night. Both WL Stile and Jason Rider made their first starts of the season.
The Sunoco Race Fuels Sportsman saw Jeff Broniszewski, Coraopolis, PA pick up his second win of the season. Broniszewski grabbed the lead off Todd Weldon on lap 5 and held off a strong challenge from Jake Simmons for most of the event. Both Nick Kocuba and Christian Schneider caught the leaders and joined in the battle until the end. The top four were trailed by Todd Weldon, Pat Weldon, Ricky Steigerwald, Brian Huchko, Jim Ball, and Mark Lee, rounding out the top 10. Jake Simmons and Jeff Broniszewski took the heat races.
Miley BP Car Wash Hobby Stocks saw Steve Pyeritz, Brentwood, PA pick up his 4th win of the season. Newcomer Dave Sheriff was second and Hannah Ramsey was third. Steve Pyeritz also won the heat.
In the Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns, South Park PAs Michael Jackson picked up his second career win and second feature win in a row. Jackson defeated O.B. Huff, Devin Black, and Karlee Kovacs, in a great back and forth battle. Rounding out the field were Jarrett Sugar, David Ostrander, Mark Simmons and Dale Tuche.
