(New Castle, PA) While the first season of the Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series soldiers on and the point standings continue to shuffle, it is now time to add the “mulligan factor” to the standings.  When the series was in the building phase, many drivers expressed a concern about attending all the shows and thus the format of basing the championship on the best nine (9) finishes of the registered drivers was introduced.  “I thought this would be fair and would be a way to encourage more drivers to participate in this concept” noted series director Shaun Hooks “So far, after four (4) shows, sixteen (16) series drivers have participated in all races and I am very satisfied with that.”

Going forward, the series point standings will be posted using a “mulligan system” where the driver’s worst finish will be thrown out.  For example after 4 races, utilizing the total point system, Hooks leads the standings by 8 points over Rusty Martz and 15 over Tim Burns.  However, when the worst finish is tossed out and the points are based upon a driver’s best 3 finishes so far, Rusty Martz is the points’ leader by 1 over Shaun Hooks with Christian Schneider only 3 points back.  The top 9 drivers are only separated by 16 points, so the championship is still wide open!  A near $10,000 series points fund will be distributed a short time after the season’s final race on September 12th.

The series will next be in action on Sunday July 27th as Mercer Raceway Park has rescheduled the race lost to rain on July 13th.  It will be the first of two stops at the park as the series will return for a second visit on August 24th.  In addition to the race purse, Rich & Freeds Auto Parts and Shaffer’s Towing have combined to add $350.00 to the possible winnings with $200 going to the highest finishing registered Homak Penn Ohio Series Driver, followed by $100 and $50 respectively. $50.00 compliments of GM Roofing will be awarded to the hard charger and a certificate valued at $50.00 sponsored by Wedge Motorsports will go to the driver with the toughest luck. CD Gibbs will again sponsor the fast time out of the heat races with a $50.00 Award.  Two drawings will be held for a drum of VP racing fuel, compliments of Ingram Race Engines and a professional grade tool cart, courtesy of series sponsor Homak Inc.

The Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series will feature at least 10 events located in Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania at various tracks utilizing the tracks rules and format. Registered Drivers for the series will receive points towards the year end championship with a guaranteed $10,000 point fund. Additional Sponsorships and contingency program opportunities are still available.
