Will the ever reopen or just let the weeds take over? Was the best track in the area!

Two years of sitting, it may as well get filled in and turned into a cornfield.

Sorry to see that much money and effort put in to opening that place just to see it in the condition it is now. We raced there many times and enjoyed most of the racers and the people in the crowd plus got to see some really good Sprint car and late model races there. The track still has potential to be a really nice place if the right person would be able to get a hold of it but with it sitting in the Gears back yard I don't see that ever happening,VERY SAD to say.

I liked Thunder Mountain, but on a weekly basis they drew less cars than any other area track.  The sprint shows were good when they hit off nights for Lernerville and Clinton County at the same time.

IMHO the location of the track hurt them some.

Audie, how about giving us an update on the future of the track.  Is it for sale or lease or will you be running it again?

The track can be leased but is not for sale.

I was there three times, saw Sprints there twice and really enjoyed the atmosphere.  Really nice race track but, like someone already alluded to, it's in a really out of the way location.

I am curious how much it would be to lease a track like Thunder Mtn and would insurance be included?

It is my understanding the track would have to go through a council of some sort, to be allowed to run again. Prior to last season the track has to hold one race to retain its (grandfathered) status and remain the way it was. But since there was no race held, they would have to go through the whole process again.

What council? I find it hard to believe there would be zoning laws of any kind out there. Anyone been there lately? I would think after sitting dormant this long it would take some $ invested to get it ready to even turn some laps on.

I think the twp passed an ordinance that had to grandfather the track. As I was told, if they don't hold at least one racing event a year they would have to get a variance.
