(New Castle, PA) After four successful series events, the Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series suffered back to back rainouts at Mercer Raceway Park during July, setting up a doubleheader weekend with an event Saturday, July 9th at Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway and Sunday, August 10th at Mercer Raceway Park. “It seems like forever since the series held an event, so I am hoping for good weather and two successful events” noted series director Shaun Hooks.
The event at Pittsburgh will be a 20 lap, $1,000.00 to win race with up to 32 cars starting. Earlier this year, the series debut, the 3rd Annual Ed Laboon Memorial was held at PPMS and a whopping 46 cars entered the event, so a full field of Homak Penn Ohio Series Drivers are expected. Sponsors for this PPMS race are Hooks Auto and Taylor Auto Body. In addition to the normal pay, $50.00 compliments of GM Roofing will be awarded to the hard charger and a certificate valued at $50.00 sponsored by Wedge Motorsports will go to the driver with the toughest luck. CD Gibbs will again sponsor the fast time out of the heat races with a $50.00 Award. For more information on Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway, visit their website at www.ppms.com.
On Sunday July 27th the series will move to Mercer Raceway Park as the Park has rescheduled the race lost to rain on July 13th and July 20th. It will be the first of two stops at the park as the series will return for a second visit on August 24th. In addition to the race purse, Rich & Freeds Auto Parts and Ingram Engines have combined to add $350.00 to the possible winnings with $200 going to the highest finishing registered Homak Penn Ohio Series Driver, followed by $100 and $50 respectively. $50.00 compliments of GM Roofing will be awarded to the hard charger and a certificate valued at $50.00 sponsored by Wedge Motorsports will go to the driver with the toughest luck. CD Gibbs will again sponsor the fast time out of the heat races with a $50.00 Award. Two drawings will be held for a drum of VP racing fuel, compliments of Ingram Race Engines and a professional grade tool cart, courtesy of series sponsor Homak Inc. The series uses a Mulligan Point system as the championship standings allow any registered driver’s worst finish to be thrown out, thus after four events, the standings are posted with the driver’s three best finishes and Rusty Martz is currently leading the standings over Shaun Hooks by one (1) point and Chris Schneider by three (3) points. The top nine drivers are only separated by nineteen (19) points so the championship is still wide open. Registered drivers Hooks, Schneider and Chris Withers have all scored feature wins in series events in 2014, while Curt Bish won the season opening Ed Laboon memorial at PPMS.
The Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series will feature at least 10 events located in Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania at various tracks utilizing the tracks rules and format. Registered Drivers for the series will receive points towards the year end championship with a guaranteed $10,000 point fund. Additional Sponsorships and contingency program opportunities are still available.
