Last weekend's action around the western PA circuit saw Danny Holtgraver take the Sprint Car point lead back while the Late Model standings tightened up even more. Limited Lates and Sprints also remain very close.
SPRINT CARS..........With second in Sunday's All Star race at Mercer, Danny Holtgraver took the Sprint Car point lead back from Carl Bowser by a four point margin, 38 to 34. However, this weekend will find Holtgraver out of the western PA area for a two day All Star show at Attica, while Bowser is expected to run at Pittsburgh Saturday in a $2,000 to win race that carries double Cavalcade Points. A win would put Bowser back in the lead while a second for Bowser would leave he and Holtgraver in a tie. Brandon Matus remains in the hunt for the Cavalcade honors with 29 points.
LATE MODELS..........Jared Miley didn't score any points last week while those chasing him did, cutting his lead to just 4. Pavement pounder Matt Sever moved into second with a win at Jennerstown and a third at Motordrome. Only 4 races remain on the two asphalt track's schedule, so Sever has little chance to contend for the honor with many big dirt track races to run. Amazingly there are currently four drivers tied for third just 8 points back of Miley. They include Alex Ferree, Robbie & Max Blair and Mike Blose. WIDE OPEN FOR SURE!!!
LIMITED LATE MODELS................Rick Singleton got a third at Roaring Knob in a double point race while Max Blair won at Eriez. Singleton now leads Blair by 3 points. Third place Chad Ruhlman is 25 points back, so this is down to a two driver race.
LIMITED SPRINT CARS.....The limited Sprint Cars remain in a tie between Ralph Engle, Jr. and Andy Feil. Last week Feil got a third in the Mercer double point race while Engle was second at Sportsmans on Sunday so that both drivers earned 2 points. There are only 13 points behind first and sixth so that the likes of Cody Bova, Michael Bauer, Jimmy Morris and C. J. Jones are still in the hunt. However, according to my count there are only five races left in this class. The annual Little Guy Nationals at Mercer on Sept. 26-27 could well be the key!!
There were no significant changes in any of the other classes this past weekend.
It is very possible that five of the classes for Cavalcade awards will still be up for grabs going into the annual Stampede at Lernerville in October!!
GOOD RACING TO ALL!!!
