Andy Fries Scores Steel Block Bandit Win at Dog Hollow Speedway; Angelicchio, Martin, Theys, Pease & Lee Add to Win Totals
STRONGSTOWN, PA (September 13, 2014) – The Steel Block Bandit Late Models invaded the Dog Hollow Speedway for the first time ever and Mercersburg’s Andy Fries came away with the victory. Dan Angelicchio (Townsend Gas & Oil Super Late Models) won for the second time while Joe Martin (Lias Tire Crate Late Models), Jon Lee (Pure Stocks), Jack Theys (FWD 4 Cylinders) and Bob Pease (Mod 4s) all added to their 2014 win totals.
Justin Queen took off at the drop of the green in the Pure Stocks. Queen, looking for his first Dog Hollow win in over a year, led the first ten laps before Mahaffey’s Jon Lee passed him on a lap ten restart. Lee then opened up a slight led to earn his fourth feature win of the season. Queen was second followed by Davey Lee, Marshall Detwiller and Nick Erskine. Erskine, Brandie Mills and Davey Lee were the heat winners.
Joe Moyer took the initial led at the start of the 20-lap Lias Tire Crate Late Model feature. Moyer looked like he was headed to victory lane until sixth starting Joe Martin moved into second on lap ten. Martin, of Mayport, then reeled in the leader and passed him on lap 14. Martin diced through traffic to pick up his fifth win of the season. Rick Singleton was second ahead of Moyer, Mike Laughard and Matt Parks. Heats went to Martin and Laughard.
Ralph Morgan, Jr. took the lead at the start of the 30-lap Steel Block Bandit Series feature. Morgan looked strong leading the first eighteen laps holding off Robbie Emory. Andy Fries moved into second on lap thirteen and then pressured Morgan. Fries slipped by Morgan on lap eighteen and then sped away for his first Dog Hollow win. Emory was second over Larry Ramsey, Cheyenne Reed and Robbie Black. Sixth through tenth were Morgan, Bernie Whiteford, Joe Petyak, Brian Lessley and Denny Bonebrake. Heats were won by Emory, Ramsey and Morgan.
Mt. Pleasant’s Dan Angelicchio made his fourth appearance at Dog Hollow in the Townsend Gas & Oil Super Late Models and came away with his second win. Mike Blose led lap one before the yellow flew. On the restart Angelicchio used the outside starting spot to take the lead and start to pull away. Caution closed up the field with the last one on lap 16. Blose kept Angelicchio in sight. The pair encountered lapped traffic in the final few laps and Angelicchio got caught behind a car and he and Blose made contact coming for the white flag. Blose let off and Angelicchio was able to hold on the final lap for his second win of the season. Blose was second followed by Mike Altobelli, Dan Lee and Wally Fox. Sixth through tenth were Shawn Claar, Dan Swartzlander, Bobby Watt, Ryan Christoff and John Myers. John Garvin and Altobelli were heat race winners.
Jack Theys led all 12 laps of the FWD 4 Cylinder feature to take his third checkered flag of the year. Theys was first challenged by Mike Potter before teammate Brady Miller applied pressure. The pair raced side by side at times before Theys crossed the line for the win. Miller, Rusty Focht, Mike Potter and Lance Kough were the top five. Focht and Lydic were the heat winners.
Derry’s Bob Pease beat Tom Pavelko in the Modified 4 Cylinder feature.
