STRONGSTOWN, PA (September 8, 2014) – Plans have been finalized for Dog Hollow’s Inaugural Fall Festival known as Thunder Dog 50 Final Showdown, on September 25, 26, 27. The three day finale will bring the curtain down on a successful first season for rookie promoter Dan Savino.

“It has been a learning curve for sure,” said Savino. “We are so pleased with all the support the fans have shown us in our first year. We made as many improvements as we could this first season, but it was hard to get everything done we wanted. I can’t thank Jim & Sharon Michny enough for allowing us to reopen this great track and bring it back to life.”

The 50-lap Townsend Gas & Oil Super Late Model feature will pay the winner $6000 to win with $200 to start the main event. Drivers not making the field will get $150 tow money. There will also be a non qualifiers race depending on the car count.

“We had a pretty ambitious schedule for our first year and we hope to make that grow next season,” said Savino. “We will be able to get an earlier start on 2015 and hope to make some announcements soon on some of our big shows.”

Thursday is a practice day for all the divisions if they want to come and test. Camping will be available, but there are no hookups. Friday will feature a full show for the E-Mods paying $800 to win. This will be the first time the E-Mods have been back to Dog Hollow since 2003. All the other classes will be running heat races and dashes for cash on Friday. Saturday will be B-Mains (if needed) and all A-Mains.

Joining the Townsend Gas & Oil Super Late Models on Friday will be the Lias Tire Crate Late Models, Steel Block Limited Late Models, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, FWD 4 Cylinders and Modified 4 Cylinders.

Drivers who have called and commited are Dan Stone, George Lee, Shane McLoughlin, Quintin Wyandt, Brandon Delano, Chris Rhodes and Dan Angelicchio. Friday night regulars Mike Blose, Dwayne Taneyhill, Shawn Claar, and Duane Stiner are also expected to be in the field along with many others such at Mike Altobelli. Can the Ford drivers continue their hot streak or will one of the Chevrolet boys be able to stop them?

Friday night will also feature a performance from national country recording artyuist Ricky Lee. Lee will be returning from Nashville after recording a new album. A concert will be held before the races and during intermission.

Sunday, September 28 will be used as a raindate for all features should it rain on Saturday.

General admission prices are Thursday $5, Friday $20, Saturday $25 or a 3 day pass for $40. Pit prices are Thursday $25, Friday $35, Saturday $40 or a 3 day pass for $85.

Thursday's practice will go from 6-9PM or longer if needed. Pits will open at 4PM and Grandstands 5PM. Friday pit gates are open 4PM, Grandstands 5PM and Racing 7:30PM. Saturday times are Pits 4PM, Grandstands 5PM and Racing will start at 6:30PM.

What is the format for Friday?  Pill draw or time trials.  How many laps are the heat races?

never really understood promoters idea on a payoff.  Here is another $21,815.00 purse that is top heavy.  Most race teams that travel look at 3 things depending on how good they are.

1. how much it is to start

2. how much is it for 10th

3. how much is it to win

Its great to have that big number $6000.00 to win to draw one or two bigger names that might draw a few more fans in. but if you lower that to $5000.00 to win and spread the 61% of the purse through out the field it would draw more cars.  Which in turn draws more fans that show to watch those cars.  I think this is a much better payout with the same purse.

1. 5000  2. 2250  3.1250  4. 1150  5. 1000  You still pay a grand to finish in the top five.  Which accounts for only 48% of the total purse where Dogs is almost 61% of the purse is paid to five drivers.

6. 900  7. 850  8. 800  9. 775  10. 750 Your paying $200 more for 10th and more across the board for 6th through 10th and accounts for 18% of the total purse while Dogs payout is 17% of the purse but a much lower payout.

11. 650  12. 625 13. 600 14. 575  15. 550 Now is where you see the difference in payout. 11th through 15 are roughly $150-200.00 more per position and accounts for 13% of the purse where dog is only paying 9% and again in my opinon are the most important paying positions in the field.

16. 475  17. 475  18. 450 19. 450  20. 400  Again you are $100- 135 more per position and you are paying out 10% where dog is only paying out 7%

21. 400  22. 400  23. 400  24. 400  You pay $200.00 more to start per position 21st to 24th which means alot when taking into account fuel and pit passes to get teams to the track.  If you have enough teams to run a non qualifiers race there is no need to start more than 24 cars.

In conclusion if you reward teams for showing up at your race you will have more there than just rewarding the top five week after week.  Most teams that win these 5 grand to win races can afford to race.  Its the teams that hope to have a shot a winning and a very good chance at a top 15 which would help cover part of the costs of racing that day.

Stay home. If you can't afford to race for that pay then your in the wrong class and you should support those that can by showing up and watching. Park it for the week.

I don't see this race drawing well given the payoffs and there are 2 other better paying races this weekend for the Late Models at Eriez and Roaring Knob.  Both of those offer 2 separate programs.  Mercer will get the Street Stocks plus the open rules at this race for that class practically gaurantee that 28N will win.   I agree, this race would do much better if the payoff was spread back and they weren't having it on a weekend with so much else going on.   $75 to get in the pits for 2 days and only 2 of the classes pay more than $75 to start!

That race pays better than the famous pittsburgher did and doesn't have a 75 dollar entry fee and pit passes are cheaper ....

Last weeks race at Stateline was one of best paying races unsanctioned this area has seen. Check late model pays, it's pathetic. Dog Hollow is right in line at the top with most specials. But $400 to start should be minimum for a two day event.

Express , I'm still selling 3-4 decks a week and only finishing 1.5 so I need to work weekends until I find more guys. I will be at the DTWC and I'm hoping to race 30 times next year but with the demand for my work that's probably overly optimistic .
