Talking with Frank today while going over registrations making some plans for the Jack Frost Enduro and Snowflake Mini Stock race on January 3rd, (check the website for registration information) he was telling me a couple people have called the track to find out what the big changes are. As a Fank said to me,"As soon as somebody knows what these changes are I wish they would let me know."

So other than the interest from Kasey Kahne to buy the track, nobody seems to know what the big news is. Oops........

Therefore absolutely no reason to be excited about Mercer. Point taken.

I don't think there's any beef with WRG and/or Lernerville and Mercer. I don't know that Mercer really holds enough fans to pull off a WoO show though.

First WoO race at Mercer was July 14, 1978.  Feature was won by Johnny Beaber.  Check out Open Wheel Vol 1, number 2.  Just imagine the advertising for the next race.  July 14, 2015.  First WoO at Mercer since 1978.  Honorary flagman Johnny Beaber.  It's a Tuesday so they get the mid week discount. Oops!  Silver Cup.

Yes, but the WoO was quite different in 1978.  That is when Ted Johnson started the whole thing. He really didn't "sanction" races that year, but any race paying $2,000 or more was designated as a WoO race and was awarded points by Johnson. The race was the annual "Western PA Sprint Championship".  I think he actually started sanctioning races the next year and as the say, "the rest is history", with Lernerville running their first race in 1979.

For the record books, the race at Mercer was on June 14, 1978 with Lou Blaney and Texas native Dub May following Beaber across the line.  As for the weekly shows at Mercer in 1978, Lou and Ralph Quarterson pretty much controlled victory lane. They won all but two races that were won by the late Buddy Barris and Ed Murphy in the Zeigler #42,  Lou won the most with 7 over Ralph's 3.

GOOD RACING TO ALL!!

Is Johnny Beaber shown as a WoO winner for that race?

Won11virus just wondering what your beef is with Mercer, as a weekly racer there they have been excellent to deal with, pay is as good as anywhere else, well maintained grounds and always thankful that you supported their track....just wondering what the problem was.

My beef with Mercer? The bleachers suck, the announcer is a detriment to the track, the classes are boring, and the fans are, to put it mildly, a bit odd.

I wouldnt have even commented past my post on the bleachers if their resident Mr.Know-it-all of an announcer hadnt felt the need to squelch any kind of anticipation or excitement about next season by completey dismissing even one thing will change from the previous year. If they did change anything it should be to stop his incessant night long yammering. If they turned the microphone on and let a dog bark into all night long it would be an improvement.

Virus if you want to criticize me, I could care less, but don't expect to insult the fans at Mercer and get off scott free. They are a great bunch. They don't hesitate to pitch in money, prayers, whatever is needed for a worthy cause. They are knowledgable and recognize the efforts of a driver who might not have a bunch of money, but just had a good run. They welcome new drivers and guests with open arms. They down home, every day people, who have a good time at the track. In short every track should be blessed with a fan base like we have at Mercer.

And they used to call Don Rickles Mr. Warmth.  Sure enjoy Race Crud.

To complain about one thing seems understandable but complaining about everything doesn't.  Why would you do that to yourself?  At least Rickles got paid for it.

I don't care for the announcer, either. I've sat on much worse bleachers. I love that they have 410 Sprints. I wish they still had Big Blocks weekly, but I like the Small Blocks. I think they have one too many support classes and that their intermissions are entirely too long. Other than that, they have the second best weekly program behind Lernerville.  And no, they do not need any of the 15 different LM classes in this stinking area.

Mercer is not a bad track, don't care for the lack of banking but I am not complaining. I just don't understand why people want to sit through a six division show and leave after 2 or 3 features. Get rid of all the junk and put3 or 4 quality divisions on the track and everybody watches the full show gets out at a decent time everybody is happy. Put the extra purse in the divisions you run, get full fields, and the same amount of cars are in the pits. The back gate is the same as before with fewer divisions. You people need to go on a road trip to Attica, Fremont, Lincoln, WilliamsGrove where they want to see full quality fields not just a lot of cars putting around the track.

I go to Mercer all the time and yes sometimes the show goes too long but so does most tracks and its mostly out of the tracks control.  The ones that bash this track and others should buy them and see how hard it is to operate a race track and keep everyone happy.  Most of the people on here need to grow up and act like adults when the post on here.  I have been to all the tracks and even the eastern tracks and the economy is different out east than it is here, so that makes a difference on what divisions they run.

Tell me mister econo why the economy is better out east?
Four divisions are enough let the 4 cyl & mods go to sportsman.

Not to be redundant but take a trip to Attica, 15 miles from nowhere, 3 divisions, full fields of cars, fast well run shows = happy full grandstands. Look around and ask where the economy is?
