My 5 year old son wants to race a dirt kart, I'm looking to get him one but I would prefer him to have a cage over his head, are cage karts there own class or is it your own preference to have a roll cage. were gonna be racing at slippery rock speedway. thanks for any help..

Cage Karts are usually a separate class.

You are not allowed to race a flat kart until 8 yrs. old in the purple plate class. Yes they run youngsters in the comer class with the squirt karts, but they are restricted to be very, very slow. after that they either have to run champ karts,or race a cage class. I have seen naugle , and slippery rock mix champs and caged karts before. A junior champ is the way to go for a 5 yr. old. They have a shorter wheel base, and take less pedal modifications for a smaller driver. Do you have any karts now?  If you are looking for a kart I have a complete set up ready to go. It is a previous track champion kart at Blairsville with many wins.

If the comer engines are not cheated up they will be no where close to a purple plate. The big problem is that nobody checks them at local tracks especially slippery rock.
