SHARON’S NEW BEER SALES & 50/50 RAFFLE TO BENEFIT CHARITIES & ORGANIZATIONS; $10 GRANDSTAND ADMISSION; NO CARRY IN COOLERS PERMITTED

By Mike Leone

April 19, 2015                        FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Hartford, OH)…With the 86th anniversary season opener now in sight on Saturday, April 25, Sharon Speedway is announcing new programs and policies for the 2015 season.  Fans will now be able to experience the “Steel Valley Thunder” weekly racing program for just $10 throughout the season, while racers will no longer be required to pay the annual registration fee.

Sharon Speedway has finally acquired a permit to sell alcohol.  Alcohol proceeds as well as the 50/50 raffle benefit proceeds will now go to a selected and announced charity or non-profit organization on a weekly basis.  Many of these charities and organizations have already been scheduled with the first being the American Cancer Society this Saturday night.   And in an effort to continue to host affordable racing and concession prices and as is the case at many racing facilities and other venues, carry-in coolers will no longer be permitted at Sharon.

The April 25 opener will be contested on an all-new racing surface as 111 tri-axle loads of clay were brought in over the offseason.  The opening program will include the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds, Summit Racing Equipment Modifieds, RUSH Sportsman Modifieds, Gibson Insurance Agency Stock Cars, HTMA/Precise Racing Products Econo Mods, and the Deforest Used Parts Mini Stocks.  Pits open at 4 p.m. with the grandstands at 5.  Group qualifying will get underway at 7 p.m.  Kids 13 and under are still free as well as parking for all events.  Pit passes are $30.

Sharon Speedway is owned by the Blaney, Weller, and Kirila Families and is a 3/8-mile dirt track located on Custer-Orangeville Road in Hartford, Ohio near the intersection of Routes 7 & 305. What's next is the loss of fans because you have to buy your own beer.

How do you lose fans when there aren't any? The regular Saturday night crowds have been bad for a long time. They get huge crowds for the specials, and those people will come whether they can carry in or not. Sharon is a self sustaining back gate track. Any kind of crowd is icing on the cake. There is nothing wrong with that, they know what they are and don't seem to have a problem with that.

Sharon does ok at drawing cars for the most part. It's just the divisions that they are running don't draw a big crowd.

Deal with the devil is spot on. I wouldn't trust that biotch as far as I could throw her and her make-up bag.

I predict a beer will be around $3. I think that's what it was back when they used to have some beer trailers come in for special shows. Obviously if you were bringing in 6 packs of Busch or Natty in your old Marlboro soft sided cooler you're going to lose some money on this deal.

I think they are prepared to weather the storm up front until people get used to it.

I know one thing, I got laughed at when I tried to bring a cooler into the tracks down here in Florida. But they also have liquor licenses.
