Yes, I first saw Gus and Dick run at the old Butler track in the very early 50s.  Dick in the famed Palone Bros. V-2 and Gus in a red Ford coupe #59. His photo with that car is in one of my old NASCAR yearbooks 1951-52.   No question he was one of western PAs all time greats!!    R.I.P.!!!

Sad to hear this- I had the pleasure of meeting him about 15 years ago at Race 1 when he was helping his grandson John with his kart. He reached in his shirt pocket, took out a tattered notebook, which held a photo of the first race car he and his brother Dick had put together; looked like a bare frame or bed springs as I recall. He mentioned his brother was on his way to Indy....

My 1st sprint car hero & he is & always will be one of my favorites

watched him 1st in 1964 at the old tri city {high bank} & Blanket Hill on sundays

hard to find a sprint car track in Pa. where Gus didn't win

the Banas 69 at Blanket Hill was one of the best looking rides ever.

RIP Gus & God Bless

I recently heard tell that gus would use a slide job called by the teller as a " death Slide " where it didn't matter if the slide job ended up in rubbing wheels or banging them ... He would go for it ! and use it often .. and that many fights ensued after the races .. this was a reliable source.

RIP one of the greats
