The race on Saturday night was probably the last race I will attend at MRP.  Have been going there since the early 70's.  Unless a racing surface is applied, I'm done with Mercer.  Tired of the rocks and completely covered in soil trying to watch a race.  I'll travel elsewhere for Saturday night racing or just watch something on PPV so I can actually see a race I pay for.  This view is from the pits standing on sprint trailer or from the pit bleachers in front of winners circle.

I cooked a new motor and broke the frame in my sprint car saturday night.Came back sunday for the enduro race , had one car burn up,one get totaled and one finish the race,still managed to have a great weekend, spending time with my family and friends.Every track has a few issues granted,but ill suffer thru the occasional dust bowls to spend some time with a lot of great racers and good friends.

Every dirt track can and will have bad nights. Try going to Midvale Speedway if you don't like dust.

Yeah drop the support classes because nothing helps racing like shitting on the guys that support the track all year just because the big boys are in town. Then all the other chronic complainers can be mad about paying an inflated price to watch 2 classes. The people in this sport will find anything to complain about.

It always makes me laugh when support class guys think they are the reason people come to the track and they are the only ones that support tracks!

Mercer has been going down hill for the past few years now. It really is ashame because it's has the potential to be a great facility like it used to be.

most true statement i have ever seen on this site. If admission was free and the track crew washed your car while you watched racing people would still complain that they used the wrong soap or sponge

I've been around racing for many years.  All on dirt tracks.  I don't care where you go to see dirt track racing, you are bound to get some dust.  That includes, Sharon Speedway, Expo Speedway, Raceway 7,  Eriez,, The old Canfield speedway, Hickory Speedway, Butler Speedway and some at Knox and Lernerville   It's still the best racing for  your money.   If you don't like the dust, go watch "follow the leader" on asphalt.  The "grit " is harder to get off your skin. at an asphalt track.

I actually agree, I love dirt , and don't mind dust , but that is the first time i've actually had my eyes burning because of so much dust.

True that was pretty bad, but it is the nature of the beast... there is no sense in complaining... its not like they didn't water the track.  I was fairly busy but from what i understand they even watered the track during the program at somepoint.  I think when you have so many sprintcar races, you are going to make dust.  I suppose they could just run neons and keep the dust down.

I've heard from drivers that it's no where near as bad on the track as it is in turn four.  Personally I had the choice of giving up watching or doing something to help my health.  I chose to buy a full face respirator, so I could quit bitchin and watch the race.  It's the greatest thing since sliced bread.  I watch with my eyes wide open and I can actually breath.  I'm not going to expect the drivers and car owners to reach deep into their pockets, paying the high outrageous back gate price to get in and pay for the show I'm going to watch, and sponge off of them.  I want to watch so I bought what was necessary for me to watch the great show they put on for me.  Like it's said, if ya can't handle the cost to go racing, tough ..... ... if ya can't handle what's you feel is needed to watch the show... tough ...

I'm not crazy about heavy dust, but I'll put up with it. The problem isn't what dedicated fans will put up with. It's what casual or new fans won't put up with.

People like us that go to the track once, twice, or more a week, are a dying breed, and we aren't being replaced.

Things we might take for granted like poor bathrooms, run down bleachers and facilites, bad and/or expensive
food, long, slow concession and bathrooms lines, slow moving, boring programs are not helping grow this sport. Theses problems are helping to kill it, almost as much as costs or economy. Too much competition for the entertainment dollar today.

Protest the complaints if you must, but for every one of you, there could very well be two or three first time fans leaving with a bad, gritty taste in their mouths about dirt track racing. Just something to think about.

I must say I am glad that I wasn't there. I don't like having to miss half the race because I can't see.

What amazes me is that so many track owners and prep crews don't understand how to get rid of the dust........

Way back in the 90's Sock Car racing magazine had a 4 page article on clay prep to eliminate dust / make grip / save on tires.......Only one track that I know of does it and it makes the best racing I've seen........fans leave clean / cars are under control and the racing is great.....It's as simple as wood chips / saw dust / and cow shit........

 

A nice little track in northern NY called Skyline Raceway has it figured out........nicest surface I ever raced on........ya talk to most track owners about it and they look at ya with their mouth open and that dumb stare on their face......so afraid to do anything to the surface (that's assuming the track has clay to work with)
