FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Moore, Vandergrift, Singleton & Boozels Blast into Hesston Winner’s Circle
(Hesston, PA) Hesston Speedway roared back into action at the “2015 Blastoff” Saturday night. The excellent Hesston format produced passing for the lead in all features and winners coming from deep in the field. Under perfect skies and in front of a huge crowd, Greg Moore, Vic Vandergrift, Rick Singleton, Alex Boozel and Eric Boozel claimed wins at the track’s grand re-opening.
12th staring Greg Moore of Defiance, PA raced through the field to take the $500 win in the 25 lap A-Cadet feature. Ken Singer and Nate Smith raced for the lead in the first eight laps with Singer keeping control. Moore advanced from his deep starting position to make a three car race and took control on lap nine. Moore lead the remaining laps to claim the win. Smith and Singer charged back from the rear after being involved in a caution to take second and third. Cris Edwards and 13th starting Tom Wakefield finishing fourth and fifth.
Danny Farling, Kyle Beckett, Mike Desch, Ryan Sager, and Khi Swanger rounded out the top 10. Swanger and Moore split heat wins.
In the first-ever appearance of the LaSalle Engine & Chassis E-mods at Hesston, sixth starting Vic Vandergrift of Fairmont, WV claimed a thrilling feature win with daring a last lap pass. Jonathan Taylor took the lead from the outset and appeared to have firm control of the race. Under the green flag in the final laps, Vandergrift reeled him in using the cushion of the track. With the white flag in the air, Vandergrift made a strong move off of the outside of second turn and out raced Taylor down the back straight to take the $700 win.
Following Vandergrift and J Taylor were Evan Taylor, Dan Davies, Dave Brown, Brandon LaSalle, Dion LaSalle and Jeff Treece. Vandergrift also won the heat race
Curtis Heath and Eric Irvin lead the full field of Semi-Late Model Sportsman to the green flag for their 30 lap feature. Heath lead the first 15 laps before ninth starting Singleton took control. Singleton then had to fend off eighth starting Ralph Morgan, Jr. in his crate motor car. As the leaders raced into lap traffic on lap 28, Morgan pulled beside singleton going down the back straight, but Singleton from Huntingdon, PA made a bold move into the turn to keep the lead and take the $1,000 win.
Following Singleton and Morgan were Irvin, 11th starting Devin Hart and Josh Berrier. George Dixon, Jr. Robbie Black, Mike Altobelli, Jr. Troy Swindell and Donnie Farling rounded out the top ten. Heat wins for the 28 car field went to Altobelli, Black and Morgan. Brad Kling won the consolation.
Alex Boozel of McVeyton, PA raced from the 10th position to win the Freedom Powersports Hobby-Modified $300 prize. Preston Imler lead the first four laps before Boozel passed him for the lead. Boozel turned away challenges from Shawn Shoemaker to win the 20 lap feature. Shoemaker finished second followed by 11th starting Denny Norris, Ed Vogel and 12th starting Ben Krause.
Brian Shaw, Imler, Brandie Mills, Zach Price and Amber Mills rounded out the top ten. Heat wins went to Boozel and Shoemaker.
Eric Boozel of McVeytown, PA surged from his third place starting position to take the lead from Wayne Brenize on lap 2 of the Dave’s Auto Body and Towing Roadrunner feature. Boozel lead the remaining laps despite a challenge from Bobby Wellman on a double file restart late in the race. Brenzie came back to finish second followed by Wellman, Tom Brady and Andew Moist.
Rusty Focht, Heath Leonard, Garrett Watkins, Jared Rudy and Zach Moist rounded out the top ten. Heat wins went to Boozel and Brenize.
The next event at Hesston Speedway is “the Hesston Trophy” on Saturday, May 16. The ferocious Super Late Models will race 30 laps for $1,500 with the Semi-Lates, Cadets, Hobby and Roadrunner divisions also in competition.
“Motor Mountain” is located in the scenic Raystown Lake and mountain country of central PA and provides a wonderful opportunity for race fans and race teams to make a complete weekend getaway when attending the racing events at Hesston. All fans are provided an excellent view of the action, with grandstand seating and drive-in viewing built high above the racing surface. Hesston welcomes campers and now offers in track-camping on the back straight viewing ramp.
