Mother Nature postponed the 2015 opening of the Tri-City Raceway Park but with her cooperation on Sunday, June 21st the roar of racing engines will return to the Venango County oval. The Winged Super Sprints, Limited Sprints, RUSH Pro-Late Models, Penn-Ohio Pro-Stocks and the Econo-Mods will make up the Father's Day racing card.
"We were definitely disappointed that the weather did not cooperate for the May opener but the "Pullin' In The Wilds" Truck and Tractor Pulls were very well received," stated speedway co-promoter Chad Wagner. "In addition interest in the bi-weekly kart action continues to increase and we expect many of those competitors and their families to join us for the June 21st opener."
The 410 Sprints will make their return to the Venango County oval as they battle in a 25 lap main event paying $2,000.00 to win. Veterans Ed Lynch, Jr. and Rod George are quite familiar with the speedway and visited victory lane on quite a few occasions when the division saw action each week; both are expected to be in action this weekend.
In addition there are plenty of new faces just waiting to make their debut in the Tri-City Raceway Park Victory Lane. Recent Penn State graduate A.J. Flick will be looking to make his first ever laps in a Sprint Car at the speedway. Flick, a graduate of the Pro-Stock division, is a third generation racer who scored his first ever victory in an open wheel car on June 5th at the Lernerville Speedway. Other "Young Guns" expected to join in the chase for the victory include Sye Lynch, Brandon Spithaler, Brandon Matus and Zach Morrow.
The winner of the Sprint car main event will receive a guaranteed starting spot in the Lou Blaney Memorial to be held on Saturday, July 11th at Sharon Speedway.
The Father's Day racing program will also mark the first ever appearance of the Sweeney Chevrolet/Buick/GMC RUSH Late Model Touring Series in the Bill Emig Memorial. The $2,000.00 to win event is named in honor of Emig, a longtime Western PA/Eastern OH car owner. The Series' current point's leader, Max Blair, is from nearby Titusville, PA and actually has quite a few Pro-Late Model victories at the speedway. "Max got his start here at Tri-City in an E-Mod so it will be great to see him back in action," continued Wagner. In the three events touring events completed thus far, Blair has two wins (Merrittville Speedway and Eriez Raceway) and a second place finish (Freedom Motorsports Park).
A foursome of New York drivers, Bryce Davis, Jason Knowles, Brian Knowles and Randy Hall complete the top five in the RUSH Series points. Dennis Lunger, Eric Wilson, Kyle Zimmerman and Matt Latta are also expected to compete in the prestigious event.
The Penn-Ohio Pro-Stock Series event that was rained out on May 17th is also be on the racing card. In addition a complete program for the Limited Sprints (Mercer rules) and Econo-Mods (Sharon and Raceway 7 rules) will round out the evening's racing action.
