While Horstman picks up second win, Smith, Harman, and Scott share first Victories of the year at Waynesfield Motorsports Park. Even though the rains came to Waynesfield Motorsports Park on Saturday it wasn’t enough for the track staff to give up hope for an evening of racing. Just as the Mini-Sprints were done with hot laps the skies opened up but Andy, Cub, and Mike fought back and prevailed with a night of racing to remember. First up were the Mini-Sprints and collecting heat race wins were Rod Henning, Devon Dobie, and Hud Horton. With the feature lined up and the white start line in turn four there seemed to be confusion with the front row of the feature. After two failed starts, the white line at the exit of four is where you start, not the entrance of three, the third time was a charm. Hud Horton quickly shot into the lead bringing recent high school grad Jared Horstman with him. Caution soon came out for Justin Meyers who stopped on the frontstretch until the yellow flag came. Hud Horton was leading with Horstman right behind and then TJ Jenkins in third. Just past half-way Josh Yenser stopped in turn three needed assistance back into the pits. While the first two cars remained the same, they had switched positions, Rod Henning had now moved in the third position thanks to his great restarts. After that Jared Horstman simply pulled away for his second win of the year. “I really need to thank my dad, crew and sponsors Miller Construction and RTH Processing.” “I am going to be here next week with the 360 and it’s always good to get track time.” “The track stayed tacky all night, it usually slicks off earlier but not tonight” said the 18 year old driver. Second feature of the night belonged to our Non-Wing Sprints and Bob Gehr Jr, Corey Smith, and Mark Hery would be first to the checkered in the preliminary events. The sprints would also have trouble starting the event when a car stopped on the track as the flag man gave the one to go until the green flag causing a huge pile up on the frontstretch. Once the race got going the Indiana Invasion made their presence felt with the Smith Brothers Dustin and Corey taking the lead at the drop of the green flag. Eight laps in, a yellow for Kyle Conaway would slow the progress towards the finale and give Matt Westfall a closer look at Corey’s rear bumper. Another car, the 34 of Luke Hall was now in sixth after starting the race on the tail. After that caution the race went green until the finish with Luke Hall giving a show a bicycles, cushion pounding and general hard driving trying to make his way to the front. It was all for naught as Dustin Smith took the checkered flag in front of his brother Corey and Matt Westfall who had been rained out in southern Indiana and made his way up north to Waynesfield. “This is good fast track.” “We’ve had some motor trouble this year and general bad luck so we really needed this”, said the Kokomo, Indiana native. “I really like this track.” “It’s is fast, wide, and smooth.” The third feature of the evening was our Four Cylinder Truck class and the heat race winners would be Tyler Wolf, “Wild” Bill Harman, and Dave Voisard. With the green flag out the trucks followed the leaders of the night having a caution close to the start of the feature. The 13 of Eric Sutter drove into another truck that then collected Jessica Nuss ending her night immediately. On the second try though the race got going and lasted for 18 laps. In that time the 9C of “Wild” Bill was able to lead every lap from the start. Tyler Wolf in that time got a lot of heat, and dents from the Sutter machine as he was trying to “loosen” the truck up with repeated hits to his rear bumper. On that eighteenth lap the yellow came out for the 5 truck of Tom Williams who stopped just before turn one with Bill Harman still leading over Tyler Wolf and Eric Sutter. On the restart there was another caution when the 31 of Danny Kelly made contact with the feature winning truck of last week driven by Daryl Brackney bringing out the caution again. This would only slow and not stop “Wild” Bill’s trip to victory as two laps later he was the first to cross under the black and white flags. “The track was fast tonight and the last two weeks the track has been really nice”. “We have been fighting a push the last two weeks so tonight we did a little experiment and it worked”, said the driver of the Metal Craft Inc. Lyn Lee Lanes number 9C. “I want to thank Andy and Cub for the changes they have made to this track, I really like what they have done”! The final feature of the evening was once again our Modifieds and with Stan Smith and Kelly Bowlby winning early in the night the features were racked, stacked, and ready to go. With the drop of the green flag the 11JS of Josh Scott took the lead making it to his first show at Waynesfield this year. Nine laps in, the action was slowed when Jon Henry collected Stan Smith nine laps into the feature going for fifth. Josh Scott continued to lead with Chris Ullery in second and Josh Lolmaugh in third. Four laps later it was Jason Jimison spinning on the frontstretch bringing out the caution once again. Josh Scott nearly lost it all when he spun all by himself but a caution came out and he was able to take the top spot back. With just two laps to go Jon Henry, Stan Smith, and Josh Lolmaugh came to a meeting in four with the Henry car leaving the scene but the other two needed the assistance of the wrecker’s hook to get off of the track. Once the green came out Josh Scott once again left the rest of the field all alone taking the big money leaving Steve Duty to just barely nip Chris Ullery at the finish line. “I need to thank my brother, Support Air, and Bob Pierce Race Cars.” “The track was just awesome tonight.” This was first trip this year but it’s my seventh win here at the track so I really like this place”. Cub did a helluva job with the track tonight and I want to thank the track staff for waiting out the rain and giving us a place to race tonight.” B-Rad Racing Supplies Mini-Sprint Heat 1 1 Rod Henning 2 TJ Jenkins 3 Hank Zimper 4 Chris Smalley 5 Josh Yenser 6 Jamie Paul B-Rad Racing Supplies Heat 2 1 Devon Dobie 2 Justin Meyers 3 Todd Keen 4 31 5 06 6 Michael Hill B-Rad Racing Supplies Heat 3 1 Hud Horton 2 Jared Horstman 3 Jon Cottrell 4 Steve Bendele 5 Becca Stiefel 6 Tyler Hesson B-Rad Racing Supplies Mini Sprint Feature 1 Jared Horstman 2 Hud Horton 3 Rod Henning 4 Todd Keen 5 Hank Zimper 6 TJ Jenkins 7 Steve Bendele 8 Chris Smalley 9 Jamie Paul 10 Becca Stiefel 11 Josh Yenser 12 Jon Conttrell 13 Devon Dobie 14 Justin Meyers 15 Michael Hill 16 Tyler Hesson Non-Wing Sprints Heat 1 1 Bob Gehr Jr 2 Dallas Hewitt 3 Shawn Applegate 4 Brent Smith 5 Todd Gnat 6 Bob Gehr Sr Heat 2 1 Corey Smith 2 Matt Westfall 3 Jon Nelson 4 Steve Ball Jr 5 Kyle Conaway 6 Luke Hall Heat 3 1 Mark Hery 2 Dustin Smith 3 Dustin Trost 4 Mike Miller 5 Kyle Simon Non-Wing Sprints Feature 1 Dustin Smith 2 Corey Smith 3 Matt Westfall 4 Mark Hery 5 Luke Hall 6 Jon Nelson 7 Todd Gnat 8 Brent Smith 9 Bob Gehr Jr 10 Bob Gehr Sr 11 Kyle Conaway 12 Kyle Simon 13 Mike Miller 14 Shawn Applegate 15 Dustin Trost 16 Steve Ball Jr 17 Dallas Hewitt Trucks Heat 1 1 Tyler Wolf 2 Eric Sutter 3 Darly Brackney 4 Tim Dick 5 Mike Hicks 6 Denny Morelock 7 Tom Stauffer Heat 2 1 Bill Harman 2 Jessica Nuss 3 Danny Kelly 4 Bill Gross 5 Derrick Noffsinger 6 Rick Twining 7 Roger Keysor Heat 3 1 Dave Voisard 2 Ralph Schackelford 3 Pete Zuppardo 4 Randy Crossley 5 Tom Williams 6 Gabe Twining Trucks Feature 1 Bill Harman 2 Tyler Wolf 3 Eric Sutter 4 Danny Kelly 5 Randy Crossley 6 Bill Gross 7 Derrick Noffsinger 8 Ralph Schackelford 9 Mike Hicks 10 Denny Morelock 11 Daryl Brackney 12 Roger Keysor 13 Dave Voisard 14 Tom Williams 15 Rick Twining 16 Gabe Twining 17 Tim Dick 18 Jessica Nuss 19 Pete Zuppardo 20 Tom Stauffer Modifieds Heat 1 1 Stan Smith 2 Steve Duty 3 Josh Lolmaugh 4 Bill Keeler 5 Lonnie McIntyre 6 Jon Henry Heat 2 1 Kelly Bowlby 2 Josh Scott 3 Chris Ullery 4 Tony Anderson 5 Jason Jimison 6 Kevin Free Modifieds Feature 1 Josh Scott 2 Steve Duty 3 Chris Ullery 4 Tony Anderson 5 Kelly Bowlby 6 Jon Henry 7 Kevin Free 8 Lonnie McIntyre 9 Stan Smith 10 Josh Lolmaugh 11 Jason Jimison Be sure to check out our schedule to see that May 18-19 we will be having our the 1st Annual Truck-Off, June 9th the NRA Invaders, and on Tuesday June 26 the third leg of Ohio Speedweek for the All Star Circuit of Champions.
