Sunshine has finally replaced the raindrops that were all too familiar in the FASTRAK Mid-Ohio Valley region in June and July. The racing action has "heated up" as well and a mix of new and familiar faces have visited Victory Lane.
July 24th FASTRAK MOV action at the Elkins Raceway (Kerens, WV) saw Daniel Hill lead the first nine circuits until Jason Skipper got loose in turn two and spun in front of Hill. Hill, who had no place to go, struck Skipper's nose with the right rear of his car. The impact caused Hill's right rear wheel to come off and the dejected Washington, PA driver retired to the pit area for the night.
Hill's misfortune gave the lead to Duane Moreland, who was subbing for Jamie McCloud in the Tommy Pennington owned #37. Moreland and Derrick Shaw waged an excellent "door to door" battle for several laps. Shaw finally grabbed the top spot but a caution on lap 14 negated the pass and Moreland once again found himself in the lead.
The duo of Moreland and Shaw continued their "Side by Side" battle for the remainder of the event with Moreland edging Shaw at the checkered flag. The win was Moreland's first in nearly four years. Greg Hicks, Kris Southern and Chad Green completed the top five.
Elkins Raceway FASTRAK MOV action on Friday, July 31, saw Billy Beachler lead the first 12 circuits with Shaw, Ryan Montgomery, Chad Green and Daniel Hill battling for positions two through five. Shaw was able to grab the lead on the 12th circuit but once again a caution flag negated his pass. Beachler, in the Cecil B. Arthur General Contracting/Kowalsky sponsored #21, went on to score the win, which was also his first at the speedway since 2007. Shaw once again claimed the runner-up position with Hill, Montgomery and Green rounding out the top five.
Daniel Hill continues to lead the Budweiser FASTRAK points at Elkins Raceway with 493 points. Chad Green (426 points), Tyler Stutler (388 points), Jamie McCloud (371 points) and Garret Paugh (345 points) complete the top five.
Racing action at the speedway continues this Friday, August 7th with a six division racing card that features Super Late Models, FASTRAK Pro-Late Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks, Mod Lites and Mini Wedges. Gates open at 6:00PM and the racing action gets underway at 7:30PM. For additional information please visit www.elkinsraceway.net.
Tyler County Speedway (Middlebourne, WV) is the Saturday night home of FASTRAK Mid-Ohio Valley racing action and Daniel Hill scored his second win of the season at "The Bullring" on July 25th. Ryan Payne and Joel Prosser battler for the top spot at the beginning of the main event before Hill, who started in the fifth spot, began to reel in the duo. A caution with five laps remaining gave Hill the opportunity he needed to battle Payne and Prosser for the top spot. On the final circuit Payne claimed the top groove and Hill took the lower groove to win by a car length at the checkered flag. Payne score the second spot with Prosser, Kris Southern and Danny Thomas completing the top five.
Tyler County Fair racing action kicked off on Sunday, August 2nd with Hill picking up his second consecutive victory at the Middlebourne, WV oval. Danny Thomas, Southern, Payne and Joel Prosser rounded out the top five. With the fair taking place this week, FASTRAK Mid-Ohio Valley competitors will not be in action at the speedway this Saturday.
Tyler County Speedway will be back in action on Saturday, August 15th, as they welcome the FASTRAK Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series. FASTRAK MOV teams will be competing in two 25 lap main events that will each pay $1,000.00 to win. In addition, if one driver wins both main events he will collect a $400.00 bonus. The races honor two of the Tyler County Speedway greats, Beecher Eaton and Bill Childers. Beecher Eaton, a standout Late Model driver at many tracks near his hometown of Wheeling, WV is the father of Late Model Drivers Brian, Doug, and Mike Eaton and grandfather of Modified driver Cody Eaton. Bill Childers was a legend at many of the Mid-Ohio Valley dirt tracks near his home in St. Marys, WV. Bill lost his life too soon to a heart attack in the pits at Tyler County Speedway during the races in 2001. The racing card will also include the Super Late Models, E-Mods, Mini Wedges, Hot Mods, Mod Lites and Four Cylinders. For additional information please visit www.tylercountyspeedwayonline.com.
