Went to Lucas races this weekend. Portsmouth put on a good show. Would of been a great show if bloomer wasn't there! He made everybody look silly like he always does! Fast time, won heat, and led every lap! I 77 is a dump! Host the hillbilly 100 and there is no parking, no camp sites, not enough seating, pits are small, 46 cars and not really any room for more. At least 10 cars were steel block or crate cars. Track is tiny, one lane, no passing, and slick like the old hidden valley speedway. Bloomer won his heat and started on pole and led most of the race. O'Neal managed to pass on a restart but bloomer got back by to take win. 5 in a row for bloomer in Lucas races. Davenport who? If you ever get a chance to go to i77 don't!!! Go back to Tyler county!!!

It's been said people are trying to bring Pennsboro back. That would be the place for the hillbilly 100.

It would be great to see the Hillbilly 100 go back to Pennsboro, I just wonder if Lucas could force i77 to give the race up

I think the promoter Carl short probably decides where it is held. Pretty sure he was the reason it left Tyler county. They wanted upgrades made to the facility and it never happened so they moved it to a bigger shit hole! Tyler county did need to make improvements but the race track is awesome for a bullring! I never made it to pennsboro but I heard the racing was not good there. One lane n no passing but the partying was top notch! Is this true?

Dirt- Pennsboro was always run Sunday afternoon because it didn't have any lighting until they rented light towers in its last years so yes it was usually one lane freight train but the environment and "magic" was like no other. We would go down to camp Wednesday night and the party was already in full swing. By far the most archaic track I've ever been to but also by far the most fun I've ever had at a track and the most memories I enjoyed to this day. Back in the day there weren't as many competing series and the DTWC was "THE" race where you could go see every driver, similar to the World. I remember many trips down there with car counts over 100 at least. It was awesome. Probably never enjoy that again with Lucas and WoO competing against each other but man it was a blast.

If you check Pennsboro's Facebook page it looks like the track should most likely be ready next year. They've made big improvements and have gotten a bunch of donations, including one recently for $11,000. They have volunteers cleaning it up every weekend, and they've bought some bleachers and are planning to put in some new facilities. They're actually having a mini wedge race in October. I was too young to have ever been there but the atmosphere there looked awesome and I'd love to have the chance to go there.

Say what they want, but the Magic will remain the same. And yeah the parties were LEGENDARY. Can"t wait to see the place again.

Pennsboro raced before social media became such a fixture in America.  Plus, modern day race fans don't seem to tolerate substandard racing which was usually the norm at Pennsboro.  I'm sure a lot of folks who never went there would like to see the place, but how many will go back again?  And as Vince mentioned, there are so many more sanctions and many more Labor Day races today that the Hillbilly will never again be the race it once was.  I started going to Pennsboro in the early 1970s, and for 20 years never missed a race there.  I don't think I'll be back.  The Dirt Track World Championship is at a far superior facility at Portsmouth nowadays.  Maybe there is no "magic" there but the racing is a hell of a lot better.

Racing does suck down at Pennsboro only thing was good about it was the partying, like flash49 said this was all before social media where you can bash tracks like it happens daily on here, lol, sounds like a lot of tracks have there problems. I can say I bash PPMS but I've been going there since 89 and they haven't put a dime into the place since I've been going there, except change a few hundred boards, Mileys used to say we don't own the track that is why we are not putting money into it, well they own it now and they still don't do squat. at least Lernerville changed its lighting

I loved Pennsboro and I will be back. But for the social media stuff- I don't think most people I've met down there over the years know what social media is haha!
