not a true statement.

take the 4 cyl class for instance; at dog hollow the avg car count is 12.

The purse for 12 cars would be $670. (pit pass $25)

they need to sell 27 pit passes just to cover the purse. Say they sell 20 (if you notice, these guys come as teams and they all drive their own cars and change their own tires, they aren't selling many passes to a pit crew, most of their friends and families go to the front gate)

This class is a negative $175 for a night of racing.

for anyone thinking that the lower divisions are paying the purse for upper divisions needs to take another look at it.

Then explain why a place like Dog Hollow needs to run so many support classes? The average fan coming through the gate gives two shits about anything there except crates and supers. There's a reason the most succesful tracks in the country run 4 or less divisons. They don't need to.

The dudes running their steel stuff are usually down on power which makes the car WAY easier to drive especially when it slicks off .... If they are doing donuts down on power imagine if they had a hammer lol

I know a guy who took a steel block late model to the hillbilly at Tyler county speedway. Started 18th in the B-main and drove up to 2nd and made the show. Hey legend, you ever done that at a major national dirt show in your high dollar equipment? My guess is you've never made a big show.

On a dead slick track the small motor is an advantage ... Just like having your 2 inch dick is an advantage when plowing dudes with no lube

So, I'll take that as no. You spend (waste) all that money on elite equipment and run last and not only do you not make the show, you can't even run well enough to make a b-main! And a redneck with a steel block and a homemade chassis shows up at a national show and runs from 18th to 2nd, passes a million dollars worth of equipment. You blame it on having less horsepower. What a joke.

You know how you know that you're over matched in a discussion? When you resort to questioning a guys penis size and sexuality. What are you 13 years old?

That's blatantly obvious. Ain't much to do in hillbilly country, so that might explain it.

Absolutely none! I'm only a fan who loves dirt late model racing. I have been to thousands of races from Pennsboro to Eldora. I grew up watching my father and brother race local dirt tracks.

What are your Dirt late model driving credentials?

steel blocks are a joke designed for the promotor to pay less. and as far as slick track goes, how the heck are you supposed to qualify until the track turns! its motor,  big motors can change gears and tighten the car up and thats even better!  back gate pays the purse is also a myth.  and i am qualified to say these things.

Support classes are designed to do 2 things....get people involved in racing, and bring fans into the stands.   If all a track ever did was run Late models they would be out of business very quickly.  That's like saying we should do away with high school and college ball, because those who want to play can make the majors.   How else do you invest in tomorrow unless you give a "economical" stepping stone.

Those who chose to learn the ropes in the top tier classes are the ones who make a demo derby of the class.    IMO, one should have to prove they belong in the top tier classes.

I agree with Ramsey31 to an extent.  You do need those lower classes as a stepping stone.  Traditionally people that buy their way into a position don't do as well as those who worked for it.  However, I feel like some tracks are getting carried away in all aspects.  there are too many Support classes.  and the support classes are getting ridiculously excessive.  Fans don't want to go watch 5 classes of 10 or less cars and then one class of 15 or more.  Personally I would rather watch 4 classes of 15 cars.  As a driver from a financial standpoint I know that I can build a Steel Block Latemodel and a Street Stock for pretty much the same price.  That's not a testament to how cheap Steel blocks are, I'm saying that the Stock classes have got out of hand.  I've said it before and I'll say it again Berts don't belong in Stocks, and I believe the claimer rules should be put back in place.

IMO, I think tracks should stick to 4 or 5 classes total.  4cyl FWD (to give people a cheaper way to race), Stocks (make the Street stocks, super stocks, and Pure Stocks meet somewhere in the middle), Crate lates/Limited Lates or open wheel class (Modifieds, E-Mods, 305 sprints or 410's), and Late Models (Supers or Limited either way)

BRC27 is right.  There are too many support classes in this area.   A 4 to 5 class show is manageable.   If a class is getting 15 plus cars in a class, then it is justified.    We don't need Limited Lates AND Crate Lates, E-mods AND Econo-mods, Street Stocks AND Pure Stocks.   Right there are six classes that should be blended into three.   Creating new crate-only classes doesn't help.    The steel blocks can go either with the Supers or the Limiteds.

Like Ive said before, if you look at the car counts of most tracks they are getting less cars, yet have more classes.  Its weird Ive been to races all over the South, and been through the Midwest, both places where racing is big business, and yet overall they have fewer classes of cars....and plenty more in each class.   And the stands can hold 5x the amount of most local tracks.

I think few promoters actually want to see how its being done right elsewhere.  After all that would be admitting that there IS a better way.

I have been saying for years that we have way to many classes!!!   I don't think any track should run more than four classes for their regular show!!   In the early 50s there was only ONE class, now most tracks have 5-6!!    I fully believe that the reason Lernerville has always had a strong "street stock" class is the fact that they are the only support class at that track.  It is not something in their car specs that gets them a larger field then most every other track, it is the fact that most other tracks have 3-5 "support" classes and they just split up all the race teams.  If a track running six classes cuts down to four classes, then all the remaining support classes will increase car counts in a coupe of years.   I know it is a bad deal if your class is one of the ones to be dropped, but for the overall good of the sport tracks need to drop classes!!

I think with our short attention spans, even 3 classes would be a good number. One stock class, maybe mods, and a late model class. as a fan, id much rather pay $15 for just a couple hours of GOOD racing than sit through 5 hours of garbage. Better for families too. Try keeping kids interested for an entire night of racing.

Why do we have so many classes ? Because of promoter egos that won't work with any other tracks. I'll have my cars and rules and they can't go anywhere else because they'll have to change too much.so I'm pigeon holding these cars to my track. Instead of having a standard set of rules like the lates who can freely come and go from track to track. Everyone bitches when a track makes a Latemodel add 50 lbs to the front but all the other classes have to change carbs weight intakes wheels and god knows what else. How damn hard is it for 3 or 4 tracks to look at the Midwest and other successful areas and adapt the IMCA rules and enforce them. It's not hard. Then the cars can travel from track to track and not change a ton of shit.

Beating everyone with the truth.
