MCR FALL CLASSIC SET TO GO ON OCTOBER 10TH
Yes Virginia, there will be racing at the McKean County Raceway in 2015. The 10th annual MCR Fall Classic is set for Saturday, October 10th. The 3/8 mile fairground oval has sat idle since last year’s Fall Classic. The six division program featuring the ULMS super late models, UEMS Emods, RUSH Touring Crate Late Models, street stocks, mini stocks and pure stocks will be on the one day scheduled event.
Headlining the 10th annual MCR FALL CLASSIC will be the Jim and Mike Duffy Memorial “RaceFAN 50” for the Zimmer’s Service Center Inc. ULMS Late Model Series. The event in honor and memory of the father and son team that were huge part of reopening MCR in 1984 with the track current 3/8 mile configuration. Both Jim and Mike competed weekly at MCR in the mid and 1980s in the limited and late model divisions.
The 50 lap event has been the headline event for the past nine years of the Fall Classic seeing past winners of Chub Frank, Rob Blair, Boom Briggs each winning twice, while Wisconsin racer, Brady Smith, Russ King and mother nature winning the other events. South Park, Pennsylvania’s, Jared Miley will be looking to take his first ever ULMS championship and no doubt will be one of the top cars looking for the $5000 RaceFAN 50 prize money. Frank, Blair and Briggs will all be looking to grab their third RaceFAN 50 win of the event, but do not count out defending series champion, The Captain Jason Dupont of Cyclone along with Max Blair, Greg Oakes, Chris Hackett, Eriez Speedway champion, Darrell Bossard, Charlie Powell, Bill Davis, Keith Barbara, Bob Dorman, John Lobb, Rich Gardner and so many more.
The Sweeney Chevrolet RUSH Touring Late Model Series will also be on hand for the annual USMC Corporal Jason Dunham Memorial. Dunham was a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps who was awarded the Medal of Honor while serving with 3rd Battalion 7th Marines during the Iraq War. While on a patrol in Husaybah, his unit was attacked and he deliberately covered an enemy grenade to save nearby Marines. When it exploded Dunham was gravely injured and died eight days later. Dunham from Scio, NY was a part of the MCR family as his father Dan drove the #24 late model for years at MCR and other tracks in the region. We are honored to host this event in keeping the memory and legacy of a true American hero going.
The RUSH Late Models will be running a 25 lap main event and in past years the event has drawn nearly 45 race teams from all over the northeast region. Max Blair is no doubt the favorite coming into the event as the Centerville, PA driver has no doubt become one of the top crate drivers in the country. He will not have it easy as Randy Hall in the Terry Suppa #4s, Brad Mesler, Bryce Davis, Jason Genco, John Waters, the Knowles brothers of Brian and Jason along with Eric Wilson, Hall’s teammate, Ward Schell and so many others are expected.
The Zimmer’s Service Center UEMS Emod Series will participate in a 30 lap $1000 to win memorial event. The Rayce & Zoiee Zuver Memorial in memory of track lease holder, Chris Zuver’s twin babies that passed away earlier this year. The 30 lap event will have lap money available for all 30 laps. The UEMS Series is lead by Brent Rhebergen of Clymer, NY followed by Howard Fraley of Kinsman, Ohio. Neither driver have found victory lane yet on the UEMS tour this year. In the past five events, the UEMS Series has not had a repeat winner. Other expected drivers to be on hand are former series champions, Joel Watson and Steve Dixon driving the Vic Vena machine, Al Brewer, Rich Michael Jr., Evan and Jonathan Taylor, Mike Potosky, Ken Zimmer, John Woodward Jr., Darren Tarabori, David Scott and a host of others.
The street stocks will be competing in the 28th annual NEFF Landscaping “Lee Anderson Memorial 33”, with the winner going home with $600 in the unique 33 lap event. Lee Anderson was a street stock racer from the early and mid 1980s driving the yellow #2x stock car. The Smethport driver passed away competing at MCR in 1986 during a feature event. Street Stock machines from Bradford, Freedom, Woodhull, Black Rock, Canadaigua, Stateline, Eriez, Hummingbird Speedways are all expected to be on hand. There will also be lap money available for the 33 lap event.
The Pure Stocks will be racing in the annual Matt Wheeler Memorial. The 20 lap pure stock event in memory of one of the regions original and first videographers was a avid supporter of many local tracks and the lower divisions of racing. The Pure Stocks will compete for $200 to win along with the mini stocks. Entries expected from several area race tracks for the mini stocks and pure stock division.
Camping is allowed at MCR, but there will be no hookups. The Pit Gates open at 8am Saturday, October 10th and no race teams are allowed in the pits before hand to camp out the night before. Early arrivals can camp out in the main parking lot until the pit gates open. Driver Registration will begin at 9am. Grandstand ticket sales open at 11am and the grandstands open at 1130am for the ULTIMATE FAN purchase holders and at 12pm sharp for all ticket holders. Driver meeting will be held at 1230PM with hot laps beginning at 1pm. Racing will follow the hot lap and ULMS Late Model group time trial session. All ULMS Racing Series entries and RUSH Touring Series entries will need the red AMB transponder for electronic scoring. Rentals will be available if needed.
Pit Pass prices are $35 with grandstand adult admission (age 13 and older) $20, Children (6-12yrs) $10, the Family pack of $50 (consisting of 2 adult and up to 4 children possible $30 savings.) Children ages 5 and under are free. The ULTIMATE FAN package is still available until October 5th. The Ultimate Fan package consists of 2 adult tickets, 2 event t-shirts, early admission to grandstand and chance at a 6’ grandfather clock for $70.
