UFo Announces Semi-Late Division & Initial 2016 Dates!
The UFo Championship is already gearing up for the 2016 season with five initial dates during three events locked in. The 2016 tour will again follow the successful formula that has produced excellent car counts and crowds over the years. A tentative addition to the UFo tour for 2016 will be the UFo Semi-Late class.
The “Mega-100” will return to Tyler County Speedway on July 7-8-9 and the UFo Championship Super Late Models will once again be part of this huge event. The UFo Super Late Models will be competing for $8,000 total to win over two separate shows on July 8 and 9. The Renegades of Dirt E-mods will headline the event, racing for $15,000 possible to win over three days.
Port Royal Speedway will again run the “Butch Renninger Championship” under the UFo banner for the Super Late Models on September 3. This race is Port Royal’s traditional premier Super Late Model event each season and will pay at least $3,300 to the winner. At least one additional Port Royal date will be announced.
“The ThunderDog Showdown” at Dog Hollow Speedway will take place on September 22-23-24 with a pair of UFo Super Late Model races. The 2015 version of this event generated the highest Super Late Model car count in the region for the year with 55 different Super Late Model drivers in attendance. “The ThunderDog Showdown” for 2016 promises to be one of the region’s top-rated fall events. Additional Dog Hollow dates will be confirmed when the track schedule is formulated.
Specified premium UFo events will see the UFo Semi-Late division paired with the UFo Super Late Models in 2016. This class will combine limited, econo, crate and steel block late models, allowing drivers to choose their motor option. UFo integrated rules will allow all of these cars to compete together with weight and spoiler variances. This concept has been successful since it was initiated at the Challenger Raceway in 2007. The UFo Semi-Lates will give drivers racing in those classes the opportunity to compete in tour-type events.
A goal of approximately five to eight events will make up a mini-series type schedule with a moderate point fund. The opening event for the UFo Semi-Lates will be the “Springtime Spectacular” at Dog Hollow Speedway on Saturday, April 23. The UFo Semi-Lates will compete in a 30 lap championship event as the headlining division that night.
Tentative plans are to schedule the remaining UFo Semi-Lates races in tandem with UFo Super Late Models instead of stand-alone events. These double late model tour events will offer fans a powerhouse of high-power racing. Dog Hollow has also scheduled the Semi-Lates as part of “The ThunderDog Showdown” in September. Additional dates for the class will be announced.
Tentative rules have been posted for 2016 UFo competition, but will be finalized upon completion of 2016 area track rules. Super Late Models will feature open motor, GM CT525, spec and steel block options. Semi-Lates will have also 4 weight categories including limited 362.5, econo, crate and steel block.
