Lets get the pay into the 21st century.

It needs some drastic changes.

They pay 600 to win late models. Thunder mountain payed 800 then went to 1000!!

They apparently bumped the payout of Latemodels at Thunder Mountain for Mike Blose.  Thunder mountain also allows aluminum block where Hummingbird does not.  If you want to run a Limited Late then you get a Limited purse!  as for the rest of the classes if the bird got a full field of cars every week in every class then maybe they would raise the payout.  there's no point in paying 5 cars $500 to win.  They would lose their asses and have to close down.

As long as they get the cars and fans they want why would they change?  Would adding to the purse bring that many new cars and fans to off set the cost?  I really don't care either way JMO. Remember its Hummingbird.

Couldn't have said it better myself.  If you'll go race for $ 600, why pay someone $800 or $ 1000?    Supply and Demand.   They have a supply (race track) and you have a demand (to race)   unfortunately, most drivers demand to race is too high, so the driver keeps going back for $ 600.

So your saying if they UP the pay in the StreetStocks and PureStocks they will gat a full field of cars.

Im saying if the tracks demand to fill the field is greater than the current supply of cars, rates will go up as an incentive to try and lure them.   I really wish more people understood their impact on pay, and how they can effect the outcome.    If you had a house for sale, and ask $100k.   I am standing in front of you with $100k, would you seriously take the next offer of $90k?   Of course not, no one would.

 

This is no different.   If the track needs X amount of cars each night to make the income that they want to make, why would they just give more money away?      Many businesses goals are not to be the next mega giant.    Some are happy with a certain amount of income.

 

This is no more than simple negotiation.   The track is offering $ 300 to win, and X amount of cars are saying...Deal!   People need to point the blame back on themselves for accepting $100, $300, $600, whatever to win.    As long as the driver is an addict, they will eat the poor pay, poor track conditions, rough driving, fighting, etc etc.

 

It isn't until drivers realize how much say they actually have, that any track will do different.

I have never once bitched that a track closed.  Even after sponsoring the track, providing services, etc.   Hell our billboard is still there with weeds growing around it.   I love racing, and have been involved my whole life, but I can just as easily do something else to have fun.   My need to sit behind the wheel is not greater than their need to put on a show.

Most track owners can't see past their noses.....................

Legend your business model puts your decks a step above the rest............why.............You offer a superior product......

If track owners would do what it takes to offer a superior product...(which is auto racing entertainment).....heavy on the entertainment.....

As a owner/promoter you need to take care of the product you sell...........

Good pay

Fair on-track racing

specific rules that are enforced equally

a good track surface....ready to race on every race day

Good facilitys

good food & seating for a bunch of people

AND  an announcer that can sell the product

All these things make for packed pits and stands......that's where the track will get more money for the purse......

 

If you can seat 3000 at 6 bucks instead of 600 at 15 bucks......ya double your money....plus the food and drink receipts go up.......

Most racks I go to don't have a clue on how to treat the fans or the racer.......ya get back what ya put in.......

 

Pay em...they will come.....they come and the fans will come to see them..

 

Where do most track owners live off......

Pay them and they will come has proven to not work many times . Years ago raceway 7 paid 2 k to win 400 for 10th and guess what ? They don't run super lates anymore ... I don't think the extra pay races at ppms were well attended either

Ask John Kennedy how that philosophy worked at Mckean, owners cant afford to pay big purses with only 8-10 cars in a class.

As I have said many times guys aren't 200 dollars short of racing every week they are 20k short. And even of they have the money racing isn't a priority. It takes 15-20 hours or more between races to properly clean and maintain everything ... Say every spot paid another 200 that's less than 10 dollars an hour for the work you put in. Racing is a hobby period , your going to spend a lot of money , paying the extra 200 isn't going to generate many more cars if any and it's going to put the track out of business

bigger pay usually brings better cars and most guys go by the small pond big fish plan and don't show up. The legends( nemesis) on here bragged about going for the big pay when Ryan Lynn ran Hesston but of coarse he never showed as I was the only local from our area to show and I got around 400.00 every Saturday along with getting my ass beat by jack Pencil, tom Myers, and many of the Hagerstown guys.  remember that express man.

A lot of good points brought up, but like I said before unless you have a full field of cars consistently, there is no point in raising the payout.  Jeff Taylor tried to entice people with a large advertised purse, but quickly lost car counts because he didn't enforce his rules, and his checks started bouncing.  If tracks want to keep drivers around, they need to improve their experience.  Enforce the rules fairly, take care of problems with the black flag before they escalate to a fight in the pits and stop playing favorites.  That will keep drivers happy for the most part.  When drivers come and respect the track, fans come and do the same.  Unless you have 15 or more cars in each class every week there is no need to raise the payouts.

I agree that a track can't afford to raise the payout if they aren't getting a decent car count. If a track finds that they are getting a good count on a weekly basis then the wise thing for them to do is thank their drivers with a increase for that class. This is what Thunder Mountain did last year, they were getting a good car count and thanked the drivers with an increased payout. That was done before Mike Blose was going there, if i remember correctly one week they had like 35 cars and the following was close that. Some of the local tracks have been trying hard to make happier fans and drivers, but I see them get cut up on here all the time on here instead of getting any praise for doing something right.

Pretty sure the steel block class brought 20 on average give or take. Sometimes a Bmain was run
