Ok lets say there are now 602's and 604's in everything from Stocks to Sprints and every track has at least one crate class.  Will the kit order them out of a catalog cars start showing up designed for an easy install of a crate engine?

Might race teams with lesser funds start having more then one type of car and even swap engines at tracks to run more then one class?  Or use the same engine Saturday in one car they used Friday in another?

Might crates come with quick disconnects for engine wiring, water and fuel.  Might they come with hoist hookups to make it quick to pick up the engine?  I can see an engine being changed with a few bolts or nuts pulled, wiring and fuel quickly snapped away from existing car and then put a hoist to it.  It would not be all that big a deal to have a hoist mounted in the trailer.  Simply unhook, unbolt the engine and roll the car into the trailer to lift it out, repeat installing it in another car and go race.

The net of this is if basic crates are designed for quick in and out of the car, it would open up more possibilities for those who feed off the racers.  If a racer had two cars, they would only need one engine.

yeah dumb idea?  Just happened to think of it and put it out there to be beat up.  :)

Most competent race teams can swing an engine with the quickness anyways.

I think you are thinking too hard or too much.

Back in 1970, I could change engines, between the heat races, and the Pursuit race  to race the feature.  It's know what to do and who does what.

oldtime racer, we did the same. It was something you just did without thinking about. That"s the way it was.

LOL ! I remember one of the old timers on that DVD of 50 years of Stateline Speedway saying about a racer blowing an engine and when it was announced over the PA a fan offered on up his streetcar engine. The team removed it, installed in the racecar and then put it back in the fans car after the feature. Also there is that old story of one of the famous Layfields blowing the engine in the heat, taking the engine out of his tow truck and then winning the race!

Most wiring already has connectors close to the engine and there are already no leak quick connects for fuel lines. So now ur down to throttle linkage 2 radiator hoses and 6 bolts and the engine and tranny is ready to lift out. But I doubt u will see guys swapping an engine 3 times at the track to run 2 classes.

Anyone that can afford the tires, fuel, and all the parts on a second car most likely already has 2 or more engines.

Jimmie Fass. May he rest in peace. He would drop the pan and change a spun bearing, get out from under the car and go racing. And people wonder why crate racing blows

Cars built for you motors built for you, bust it up,blow it up just send it out have it fixed or buy new. Kinda took away the some of our ability to use our brain and hands. Just my thoughts.
