Why so much effort to make the fast stuff slower?

Why is it racers, setup people and builders work there butt's off for a lifetime to make what their racing go faster and promoters work equally hard to slow down the fast stuff?

 

Somehow something about it doesn't make sense.

Well for one faster costs more. Another would be faster doesn't mean better racing on the track either!

It usually backfires anyway though. They limit you, for example, to a cylinder head that anyone can pick up for $500 so guys don't have to buy $1200 heads. Then guys feel the need to buy "trick" versions of those $500 heads for $1500 to get an edge. Same with manifolds, carbs, lightweight components, etc. just look at crate lates. The "crate specific" market can make any rich man poor in a big hurry.

Really? Mercer is adding 8 HP Junior Sprints to their card (Rumor) What would you stay after midnight for, 600HP, or 8HP?

Cool1. This is going to be great for these kids. Most of them are not 10yrs old. They will be tomorrow's racers.

I don't think the meaning of the original question was replacing classes with slower ones. It was more about changing rules of existing classes.

I agree, I even know one of the top kids, my question was which would you stay to the wee hours of the morning to see?

If the Little Guy Nationals is any indication the 9 hp class wasn't the class delaying the show.

Where did anyone say they did??  But since you want to be involved in a discussion Mr. dutko, lets start by your thoughts on trying to have 7 classes. Can you

think of any track who is running 7?? Who would you make run last???

There's rules on sprint cars to keep the drivers alive and cars out of the grandstands , there's rules on super lates to stop rolling chassis from costing 200k

Rules are put into place to reel these cars back and keep them somewhat low cost.  Speed cost money.  a dumb ass that doesn't have any driving skill but a lot of money could buy speed.  Where the driver with a ton of skill and an empty wallet can't afford to go as fast.  By limiting the speed of these cars, tracks are trying to neutralize the balance of skill vs money.  The more competitive a race is the more exciting for the fans.  Also, Like Legend said.  Tracks are trying to make things safer all around.  Keeping cars out of the stands and drivers alive.

Also keep in mind, the ones making the rules are rarely the ones building cars.
