Hi Mike!!!!

Yes, they accept bios from family and friends and then reprint them and send them to all of us on the panel.  I get a large envelope of them every year.

Getting started is half the battle. How many sprint car victories did Ralph Quarterson, Jr. have at Mercer?

Do you mean the super modified at Sharon Speedway in 1960? Or maybe the modified champ at Butler Speedway in 1960. Perhaps you mean the Lernerville sprint car champion in 1968, 1969 and 1971? 47 sprint car wins at Lernerville. And the Lernerville coupe division champ in 1971. Or the ASCoC champion in 1970. You could also be referring to the gentleman who won the Western PA. Sprint Championship at Mercer Raceway in 1966, 1967,1968,1969 and 1979. Second in sprint car points at Mercer in 1971. Partial listing of wins. 5/14/61 Sharon 7/28/63 Sharon 9/1/63 Sharon 8/30/64 Sharon 9/20/64 Sharon 7/18/65 Sharon 7/22/70 Sharon ASCoC9/6/74 Lernerville 5/1/70 Lernerville 5/8/70 Lernerville 5/15/70

Quarterson had 82 wins at Mercer from 1968 until he hung up his helmet.  Prior to 1968 records are incomplete, but I feel quite sure he had well over 100 wins at that track.  He had 47 wins at Lernerville and a dozen at Tri-City.

What is the estimate for him at Butler Speedway?

I have no real idea on Ralph's Butler wins!!    He had 6 wins in 1965 and another 6 in 1966.  By 1968 when I started writing for the old CAVALCADE OF AUTO RACING Butler had dropped the Sprints and Quarterson was racing at Lernerville. He won the fourth Sprint Car race ever run at Lernerville on June 7, 1968.   Prior to 1966 I was in Florida and the Navy before returning to Butler in 1966.   Probably the only records of Quarterson's wins at the Butler track would be on micro-film at the office of the BUTLER EAGLE and someone would have to go there and compile a list from the weekly results in the paper. Something I have never found the time to do!!   I would guess he may have won some 20 or more races at the Butler track in the 6-7 years he likely raced there.

GOOD RACING!!!!!

I don't know the answer to this. Is Ralph still with us or has he passed ? It would be interesting if someone contacted him and he gave that person a run down of his career.

Ralph was fine when I last talked with in in 2010 when he was inducted into the DIRTcar Hall of Fame in NY.  I did a bio on him at the time for his induction and that has many of the facts on his career but is slanted towards his <Modified efforts rather than Sprint Cars.   Between Mike Dutko and i we are going to put more of a push on his induction in 2016!!

GOOD RACING!!!!

Glad to hear that. Enjoyed watching him for many years. Someone has his old 40 ford, I believe it was a 40, that big blue #66. Back in the day.

Yep, right here in Butler where the original owners, Ron Montag and Don Osterling  lived.  The body was either a 37 or 38 with the smaller trunk opening.

Always thought it would be deserving to have the big 4 sprint drivers from our area during that era enshrined at knoxville.

Blaney, Quarterson, Linder & Wise

Halfway there.  Keep up the good work guys and congrats to the Linder family.
