SUPER DIRTCAR SERIES FOR BIG-BLOCK MODS & RENEGADES OF DIRT FOR E-MODS TO MAKE 1ST EVER SHARON APPEARANCE ON JULY 21

By Mike Leone

January 28, 2016                   FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Hartford, OH)…Sharon Speedway recently announced a Late Model doubleheader with the first ever appearance by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and the Sweeney RUSH Late Model Touring Series to officially open the season on Friday, April 22.  Sharon is now excited to announce a Modified doubleheader coming on Thursday, July 21 when the Super DIRTcar Series for big blocks and the Renegades of Dirt for E-Mods take to the 3/8-mile dirt for the first time ever!

The Super DIRTcar Series is the premier traveling Big-Block Modified tour in the world.  Not only will July 21 mark the first ever Super DIRTcar Series event at Sharon, but 10 years since they last appeared in the western Pa./eastern Ohio region with a 2006 visit to Lernerville Speedway.  The event will be the region’s only appearance and will pay $6,000 to-win making it the richest Modified race in the history of Sharon.  The Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Big-Block Modifieds have been a weekly attraction at Sharon since 1981.  The late Lou Blaney leads the all-time win list with 121 victories over active racer Rex King, who has upped his total to 51.

The race will attract drivers from all over the Northeast and East Coast to take on the region’s best.  In 2015, Matt Sheppard was crowned the Super DIRTcar Series champion over Billy Decker, Jimmy Phelps, Larry Wight, Brett Hearn, Danny Johnson, Pat Ward, Tim Fuller, Stewart Friesen, and Peter Britten.  Most of those racers and many others will be on hand in this full points paying event.  For more information on the Series, check out their website at www.superdirtcarseries.com

While the Renegades of Dirt Modifieds have made a few regional appearances over the past couple years, July 21 will mark the Sharon debut of the traveling West Virginia-based group that enters their sixth year of operations.  The RoD Mods will race for $1,500 to-win on July 21 in a weekend doubleheader with Lernerville the following night.  Their appearance at Sharon will be their first of two as they’ll return for the “Apple Festival Nationals” on September 16-17.

The Summit Racing Equipment (E) Modifieds have been a weekly division at Sharon since 1996 as Alan Dellinger leads the all-time win list at 87 victories.  The Sharon locals along with the region’s best will take on the RoD invaders.  Derrick Ramey was the 2015 RoD Champion.  For more information on RoD, check out their website at www.renegadesofdirt.com.

Reserved tickets will be available for this event in the near future.  Ticket prices and times will be announced soon.  Stay tuned to www.sharonspeedway.com and social media for the latest.

The 87th anniversary season at Sharon will begin with the twice rained out night two of the “Apple Festival Nationals” from 2015 on Saturday, April 16.  There will also be an open practice on Friday, April 15.  Following the Lucas Oil/RUSH Late Model event on April 22, weekly racing will get underway with “Steel Valley Thunder” on Saturday, April 30.  A big season is in the works, stayed tuned throughout the winter months for updates.

Sharon Speedway is owned by the Blaney, Weller, and Kirila Families and is a 3/8-mile dirt track located on Custer-Orangeville Road in Hartford, Ohio near the intersection of Routes 7 & 305. I give you guys at Sharon a greta deal of credit. Getting word out thru FREE  media services early gets people talking early about your events. FREE, FREE, FREE. And very few take advantage of that. Everyone can see tracks are struggling and yet they don't have the vision to take advantage of this. You get people talking and word spreads. Again, good job.

I know many of the DIRT series guys are not familiar to this area. But, these dudes can drive. They run hard and they'll put on a hell of a show. I'm not a fan of Sharon mostly because of the surface, but this is a show I want to see.

If it is the surface that keeps you away, you haven't seen it since they resurfaced it. The track has been really good. It should be good racing all year.

I'm pumped for this show. I really dig the SDS and they so rarely come into the area. I really like the Renegades, too. This should be pretty awesome.
