Great run for Ryan Blaney tonight at Daytona!!   Finished third with the Wood Brothers car in the first qualifier despite a vibration problem that caused an early pit stop.  A caution allowed him to get back on the lead lap and then he passed a bunch of cars to get third.    Lou has to be smiling!!!

GOOD RACING TO ALL!!!

Walt

Dave once said in an interview that Ryan is a better driver than ever thought about being...

Dave was good in a sprint car, but I saw him get collected in accidents in nascrap that Lou would have seen coming for laps.

Ryan looks like he may have the same vision Lou had.

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

If you don't think Lou saw stuff before it actually happened, I doubt I can explain it to you.  It's not some kind of clairvoyance or anything like that, but it's like a football running back who can see the holes about to open in front of him or a quarterback who can see the receivers routes before they make their break.  Some accidents start laps before they actually happen, and if you know what you're seeing you can let it happen without participating in it yourself.  I'm telling you, Lou saw things before they actually happened, and he moved into holes that hadn't opened when he started into them.

As good as he is, Dave doesn't have that, and Ryan might.

At the speeds they run in NASCAR, all the talent in the world can't keep you from being collected in many accidents.

Wasn't it Mario lemeux that said the reason he was so good was because he would skate to where the puck would be, not to where the puck is... some people can predict this kind of stuff... look at palamalu... that guy was always where the football was going to be passed. He could read the other players and predict their moves...

At the speeds they run in NASCAR, all the talent in the world can't keep you from being collected in many accidents, no matter how talented you might be.

Not every accident, but some.  Yeah, Lou had his night ended more than a few times, and he did it to himself sometimes too, but he avoided some because they were going to happen.

Dave was right behind two of the more notorious idiots in nascrap at the time, Robby Gordon and someone else, at a road course, and they were beating on each other for over a lap, at a road course.  They were going to wreck, it wasn't a question.  Instead of backing off far enough for them to clear when the inevitable happened, and drive by as they spun each other, Dave stayed close and got collected in a wreck that even I could see coming.  I understand that the view is different in the car, but even at that, it had to be predictable.

Ryan had another good run today, in the top ten over half of the race before being shuffled back in the late going.  He is going to give Chase Elliott a real run for the NASCAR Cup series Rookie of the Year!!

GOOD RACING TO ALL!!

Walt

Go Ryan Blaney. The hole racing brothers have to be proud of what that kid did today. He got got up it that hi line and just could not move forward. NASCRAP has to figure out a way to end this follow the leader crap. Was still a great run. He did come from the back of the pack on 1 occassion. These 2 rookies will be fun to watch.

While I agree the racing was not great, I don't think they could really do much about the way the outside wasn't working. How do you predict that? The cars behave different every time they go there. Even the drivers said they were surprised by the handling characteristics in the race because they don't spend any time drafting in large groups in practice and the other races are all at night.

The casual fan doesn't care about Chase Elliot or Ryan Blaney.  They are only aware of the back 35 if little E or Danica are still in the race.  All that the non-fans know is that Dale Jr, and Danica crashed, that the finish was within inches, and that nascrap didn't deliver on the big one, (mass carnage), this year and will have to fix that by July.

A lot of excitement left when Robby Gordon left .

I prefer drivers who can out drive the other driver, not ones who aren't afraid to wreck anyone who has the nerve to be in front of them.  My excitement is a good race.  I'm glad when losers like r.gordon leave.  I don't miss j.flinner and I won't miss joe kelly or kevin bolland when they quit.
