Bombshell by @Sye_Lynch24 announcing that #TheApolloRocket Ed Lynch Jr. is retired and Sye will be the new pilot of the iconic Lynch #2L!

Hard to believe all three are retired. Watched them turn many a lap at the area tracks.

Still gonna be some heavy duty Friday nights at the 'ville this year. Had heard the Rocket was retiring, makes sense he'd put Sye in better equipment. Sye will get better faster in the 2L than in the cars he had been driving.

It was time.  He's not the driver he once was.

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

I think he thought the same, and Sye already has enough skill that with a few years of seat time he'll be as good as Ed now is.

As good as ED you say .... Ed is one of the best to ever race a sprint car in this area ... You can't take the few races this Sye has run and conclude he will be as good as Ed ... Never mind race stud people pull that shit all the time

I agree Legend. Sye has barely shown the promise that everyone hyped him up to be. To start comparing him to Ed already is ludicrous.

True - but, if you saw Ed beat Schatz in that dash at the Silver Cup race last year, he looked like he still had plenty left in the tank.  Was a real shame he broke the motor that night.  Would've been cool to see him make one last run.

80's, 90's, 2000's for Western PA sprint car racing were great years - Lynch, Cassella, Felmlee, Hawley, George, Smith....all these guys are now retired.  The kids running around here now have some damn big shoes to fill.

Give them a few years of seat time each and they will fill them. That's the key, seat time. Legend, don't sell Sye short. Give him 4 or 5 years of seat time and he'll be taking checkers with regularity. I won't make any guesses as to championships, because guys like AJ Flick and Carl Bowser and a few others will get a piece of that action, but Sye will win his share of features over the years.

I'm not selling anyone short .... Winning some features doesn't make you ex lynch . He's been one of the best around for 30 years ... You need to wait about 10-15 yeas before making those statements

I also saw him stick a wheel into a guy in the infield and cry in victory lane because the other driver dared race him at Lernerville. He's done, and had the sense to realize it.  I give him a ton of credit for that.

Seriously?

Yeah, maybe he has one or two good races left in him, if he really wants it and is really focused and gives it everything he has, and gets really lucky, but he doesn't have it to go out and run every week with guys who want it more, and are willing to run him hard and close.  AJ Flick scares him.  AJ doesn't care who Ed thinks he is, he just races him, and Ed don't like that.  He can't just go out and turn laps and expect everyone to get out of his way.  He's done.

Ok so Ed has raced for a long time, it's a grind ! Just maybe he just wants to relax a bit and concentrate on helping his son, ever think of that?  To say that any driver is afraid of another driver is just down right stupid!

OK, well now I know why people don't like you so much on here.  There's this little thing called adulthood, where people can disagree with each other and not get like you are.  You should try it sometime.

I admire that he recognized something that some of us don't see.  He made an ass of himself at Lernerville last year, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was part of the process of coming to terms with maybe not having the same fire he once did.  He had a good local career and I don't want to make a post railing on him just because a flame war is starting on a forum.

Maybe so, or maybe not. Maybe it was just him realizing that he has lost a step or two.
