Ed looked pretty good last year for the most part. Maybe he has lost a step or two, but that still puts him far ahead of most other competitors on the local Sprint Car scene. As for being afraid of A.J. Flick, that's just silly as already mentioned.

I rooted for Junior for 95% of his career. Great local driver, no question. Only local to beat the Outlaws at Lernerville. Too many accolades to list. Pretty much ran really well wherever he went.
What I saw him do last year turned my stomach. Totally classless move when he ran over Flick in the infield. I think using the word afraid is using it in ths wrong context. Junior is smart enough to know that a relatively inexperienced A.J. Flick handed him all he wanted in two different races last year.Then there is Brandon Matus, Bowser, Kuriger, Sodeman, Jr. and he has to know things aren't getting any easier. Plus, and I know I'll get flamed for this, but he no longer has the sponsorship backing he once had.
That last sentence means that Junior no longer had the comfort of knowing that he had the absolute best of everything every regular Friday night. And if he did for a given evening, he was a blown motor or big wreck away from missing a night or two.
Last years Silver Cup? I was surprised as anyone that he beat Schatz. But, I don't care how good Schatz is, Lynch has more 410 laps at Lernerville than anyone. He broke a motor and refused a generous offer from another team to use one of theirs. Primarily probably because of funding. But the Junior of even 5 years ago likely would have went for it. That right there told me the fire was gone. You see he might have still been able to catch lightning in a bottle and win some local shows, but at 60 years old, for how much longer?
I wish Sye the best. I have seen some flashes from him, but he has a long way to go. And, is Junior going to be there for him the was his dad was? I have my doubts.

Lernerville ain't been the same and though not gone completely down hill as some would think, it's just not as it use to be since Oran took his seats and his sponsorship out of there. His leaving was the first sign of the changing of the guard. That was more then a few years back now. In recient years I think sprint racing around here has been on the upswing with a good crop of new and newer drivers with quality equipment. I hope it continues and I hope my perception is correct.
I'll miss seeing the 2L on the track with Ed behind the wheel, but I'm a race fan and I'm looking forward to seeing his son added if not already, to the crop of new or newer quality drivers in this area.

Please don't flame me as I'm not suggesting anything but a complete motorsports racing accident but do you think the Swindell accident might be a lite bit of a factor in this decision. As we all get older things we may have done five years ago we decide not to do anymore. I've put the helmet away and sold my bike after too many close calls.

Does anyone realize who was ed's primary sponsor ? I personally saw him in ed's pit twice last season. Chip Ganassi. He and Ed have been friends for years. I do realize he has lost some sponsorship dollars. Remember Ed has been racing for many years. Sye has reached the time we're he wants to move into the family car. I personally don't think that he has the drive he used to have and decided to give the seat up to his son. I wonder come all star and outlaw shows if Ed is going to get back in.

$$$$$ has nothing at all to do with someone's love of Sprint Car racing and racing. Sure the whole idea to race anything is to win. But having dollars has nothing at all to do with the love of racing or any other sport and the desire to be part of "A" win.

Dirt student , you do realize that these cars cost money to run every week ? Parts do not just "show up " in the shop on Monday ... Motors don't rebuild themselves , tires don't grow new tread overnight.

My post was not about the cost of racing. What ever you put into racing and it's people will come back to you ten fold, the same as what you put into life and it's people. This thread is about how though were loosing being able to watch Ed out on the track, the same as those before most of us on here lost being able to watch his dad on the track, were gaining being able to watch his son grow his skills. I'm looking forward to it.

Ed was on Tuesday with Kendra Jacobs and Steve Post's Winged Nation show and he discussed the economics behind his decision. He also talked about how the purses are not conducive to running the way he wanted to run. He stated I always wanted the car to pay for itself and that is getting hard to do. He used a great comparison when speaking about the number of divisions on a given race night. He said, " you do not see NASCAR and Indy Car run on the same track on the same day". If you go four hours either way the car can pay for itself. He said we have cars ready to go for Sye but we are looking for some engine help. The show is on MRN if you care to listen.

My personal OP, Sye has his DADS help and guidance, with that and seat time he will be just fine. So set back and enjoy watching the races. Best of luck to all drivers and have a safe season.

By the sounds of all that, if they should probably be racing in central PA, where the purses are higher, and there is less "filler" in the weekly programs.

Everyone reaches a time when they realise racing isn't as fun as it used to be and they want to do other things with their life. Ed has had great racing history and has many wins to reminance about. He now gets to watch his son work to accomplish his goals. Watching your children succeed in their chosen sport is sometimes better than you did exceeding yourself. We are lucky enough to be seeing a regrowth with our young Sprint car drivers. Let's not try to put the drivers against each other in words. Let's watch the build rivalries like we had in the past. I for one look forward to watching the new crop of young drivers make their own history...

It is kinda amazing to me to learn that Lynch was still such an absolute force to be reckoned with at aged 60. I bet Ed will still be able to knock off 4 to 7 Lernerville A-mains a year well into his seventies and early eighties had he choose to. If Sye is half the shoe Ed was/is then the history of the new crop of young drivers will include A LOT of third and fourth place finishes as Sye and A.J. Flick battle on a weekly basis for victory wins until A.J. hits the Outlaw trail as a professional. Sye pretty much will own the shows then. Given Sye's age, family stock, talent, and Ed's tutorship 250 feature victories are possible.

I was a moderator on a site. If the site owner chooses or if the moderator has authority to see it, IP addresses can be compared to see if a user signs on with more then one screen name. I gave up being a moderator because I got too involved with it and it ate on my nerves, It's a thankless job.
