I used to love watching lynch race but back at challenger raceway in the late 90's early 2000 I lost all respect for lynch and crew when they beat the shit out of the guy diving the tractor that towed his car from the track

Weren't in the pits when that happened, were you? Well I was, and trust me, if Jack and that tractor driver hadn't been a couple of complete boneheads while that was going on, it would never have deteriorated to the extent that it did, and the tractor driver would never have gotten the ass kicking he did. Before you go exhuming things that are better left dead and buried, stop and think that there are usually reasons why those things happen. And leave it dead and buried next time.

I was in the Lynch pit that night, and there was NO ass kicking!! Jr went up on the tractor after the driver, but didn't kick his ass!!

They yelled at each other and that was it!  And.......there was a very good reason Eddie was pissed!!!

It's amazing how BS can get started on here, then just snowballs into a life of its own.  Even if Ed Jr. had beat someone's ass at Challenger that night, one moment of less than perfect judgment should not mar an otherwise exemplary sprint car career.  Will certainly missing seeing Ed flying around Lernerville in the 2L.

Amazing. 2 people, supposedly, in the Lynch pits. One saying there was a ass whooping. The other saying they yelled at each other. 2 stories so far apart. This is the kind of garbage some wish to say on forums. I don't know. I don't understand it. I guess it's true, you can say and make up any story. I have always believed you thru out your time live by the words you say.

It was somewhat more than 2 guys yelling at each other. It didn't last very long, but things did get a bit physical. But as Don88 points out, Ed Jr., and Ed Sr. as well, did have legitimate reason to be PO, and they were. In the weeks to follow cooler heads did prevail and nothing further that I know of came of it all, but you might not have expected that outcome had you been there that night.

I love how RR has downgraded the "ass kicking" to "somewhat more than yelling" once an actual witness speaks up.

And no, Ed Jr did not have a legitimate reason to be PO at the tractor driver.  I can't swear to it, but I'd bet an Action Track Snack that the guy didn't touch any sprint cars that weren't parked on the front straight, sans driver, that night.  It seemed like a natural consequence to me; if you care about the way your equipment is handled, drive it to the pits your damnself!

If at first you don't succeed, then maybe you just suck.

What happenened at challenger

Lynch was 2nd in the feature for a restart. After several failed green flag attempts that were interpreted as jumped starts, Junior lost his marbles, stopped on the front stretch and ran up to the flag stand, then the press box to raise hell. In the ensuing chaos, his car was removed from the track with a tractor, which then lead to the altercation in the pits. I can't remember whether or not he was being penalized.

Depending on who you talk to, Eddie was in the right. This all took place before electronic scoring. Without naming names, Junior primarily had a problem with scoring. That episode wasn't the first and he also had issues, apparently with the same scorer, at Lernerville.

This story has been talked about ad nauseum on here. If someone remembers differently, please chime in.

Not long before this happened, there was an even more serious incident caused by jumped starts at Sportsman's involving Chris Pochiro that nearly lead to a riot. I was told that Pochiro and his crew were enscorted from the grounds by the State Boys.

Eddie got hosed that night. He was on, his car was on. I have no idea WHO made the call to remove his car. Was it wrong for him to go crackers, Yea probably. But, most of the fans were on his side on that one. Was it wrong to come out and take his car of the track in that fashion. YOUR DAM RIGHT IT WAS WRONG. The SCORER in question was just as wrong. That whole deal could have been handled much different than it was. If Eddie's car was damaged, who should have pd. for that. THAT was what had the 2L team so pissed in the ending of that deal. It is a shame. Challanger, in my opion made some decisions that in retrospect was there demise. Fall fest up there was great. Jack is a good guy. He still loves his dirt racing.

I think what happened that night caused an attendance drop the rest of that season, and probably caused the end of sprints as a weekly division up there, but I'm not so sure it had much to do with Challenger's demise, which didn't happen till 8 years later. There were at least 2 incidents that happened at Fall Fests in later years that probably scared Challenger's insurance company crapless and probably helped lead to Challenger's demise much more than the Lynch incident did. I think by now the place would have been closed if it hadn't been closed after the 2008 Fall Fest, due to there being too many Saturday night tracks in the area, but the Lynch incident was pretty minor in comparison to those 2 later incidents which themselves probably did do a lot to close the place.

Wow, the more people defend him on here the less I like Lynch.  Other people have gotten hosed on scoring over the years too.  Not very many have parked their race cars on the track long enough to go have an argument in the booth.  If it was anybody else no one here would have a problem with the track removing an abandoned vehicle in the middle of a race.

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

I grew up rooting for Ed, Sr. He always made time for his fans, mostly the kids. He definately had his share of blow ups, more than Junior, but he generally had right on his side. To me, Junior grew more arrogant as the years wore on to the point that he seemed to act as if he shouldn't be raced as hard by drivers that were below his own perceived level of skill.

First of all , It  wasn't during the race, it all happened after the checkered flag!!!

Second, this was not the first time this happened!!  Ed may not have been right all the times,

but he felt he needed to do something about it so he did!!~

Is this the perfect example of racestud, or what? You guys are arguing about something that happened somewhere around 20 years ago. Keep it up, I love you racestud.

He will be missed. If Sye doesn't have the seat of the pants drive and tears equipment up I personally don't think you're going to see the 2L carry on. Everybody would cheer for Sr. to run down Blackie in that 30 x 90 coupe, then on to the Troyer mod. Jr. I believe is who started with the 2L. Anyone no if Sye is keeping the same number ?

Senior did run the sprint some, but I think it was just a #2. I would assume since it's a family owned car that it will still be the 2L, but I don't know that for certain.

Sr. Ran 88 in the modified. 44 in the sprint car. And I believe 6 in his sprint car. I'm sure someone is more knowledgeable than me on this. Maybe Walt or Mike can help.
