FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Satterlee & Garlock Race to UFo “2016 World Blastoff” Wins at Port Royal Over Large Fields of Competitors!

(Port Roya, PA)  The UFo Championship kicked off its racing season at Port Royal Speedway with a huge field of 78 late models filling the pits.   Gregg Satterlee of Rochester Mills, PA captured his 4th UFo Super Late Model win and Rance Garlock of Three Springs, PA won the inaugural UFo Semi-Late feature in the “2016 World Blatoff” event.

42 of the East Coast’s best Super Late Model drivers checked into the “Speed Palace” at Port Royal for the first race of 2016.   Four thrilling heat races were won by Mason Zeigler from the rear of the grid, Andy Haus, Dylan Yoder and Satterlee.   Tim Wilson and Chad Hollenbeck split the consolation wins.  With the excellent car count exceeding 40 cars, promoter Steve O’Neal expanded the feature starting grid to 26 cars for the 35 lap feature.

2015 UFo champion Devin Friese won the pole position in the redraw, but scratched from the race due to motor issues.   This boosted Michael Altobelli and Saterlee to the front row.  At the drop of the green, Satterlee bolted to the lead and appeared he was going to repeat his heat race domination.

Satterlee maintained the lead through restarts on laps eight and 13.  Mason Zeigler had climbed to second by lap 18 when he found himself outstide of Satterlee on the double file restart on that lap.   Zeigler powered into the lead and the two sensational drivers began a furious battle for the top spot during the next 6 laps.   The two crossed the line side-by-side on lap 24 with Satterlee ahead by .026 seconds.

The caution appeared again just after the two drivers crossed the line, officially putting Satterlee back into the lead and more importantly giving him the lane choice in the double file restart.     This time Satterlee chose the outside and rocketed to the lead at the drop of the green.  Zeigler lost traction in the first turn allowing Jason Covert to move into second.   Zeigler then began to race hard with Haus for the third position until lap 27 when the two made contact resulting in both cars spinning.

Satterlee once again lead after the restart.    Covert began to track him down but at the end Satterlee was able to fend him off and take the $3,000 win.  Covert finished second with Delaware’s Austin Hubbard using the cushion to perfection to race into third from his 12th place starting postion.   18th starting Dan Stone and 19th starting Jim Yoder rounded out the top five.

Kyle Hardy, 15th starting Donald Lingo, 17th starting Chad Hollenbeck, 13th starting Matt Parks and 25th starting Mike Lupfer followed.     Lufper also was the Pass-Maximum driver that advanced the most positions to earn two bonus championship points.

The UFo Semi-Late experiment was a huge success with a whopping field of 36 cars in attendance.   Dillon Stake, Garlock, Kyle Lee and Ralph Morgan, Jr. won the four highly contested heat races while Tom Krape won the consolation.    After the redraw, Garlock and Eric Irvin sat on the front row of the 25 lap feature, but Garlock was moved to third after a false start putting Tim Krape on the pole position.

Ivrin took the point at the drop of the green with Garlock in pursuit.   On lap 6, Garlock made what would be his winning move, but had to content with 7th starting Kyle Lee during the last 11 laps.  Lee raced Garlock side by side on multiple occasions, and the two drivers raced into lapped traffic with two laps to go.   Garlock had a close call when contact was made with a lapped car allowing Lee to slip by.   However, the caution flag appeared after the lapped car spun giving Garlock the point again.

Garlock was able to keep ahead of Lee to win the $1,000 prize with Lee second.   Ivrin maintained third with Morgan and Stake crossing the line fourth and fifth.

Todd Snook raced from 17th to finish sixth with Andy Fries, Krape, Grant Adams and Nathan LaSalle rounding out the top ten.  Snook was also the Pass-Maximum bonus point winner.

The UFo Championship will continue on Saturday, April 23 with the “Springtime Spectacular” for the Semi-Lates at Dog Hollow Speedway.  That race will pay $1,016 to win for 33 laps.   The Mid-Atlantic Mods E-mods will also pay $1,016 with the Cadets (street stocks) paying $600.   A $1,000 to win Enduro and Cyclone Mini-Late Models will round out the program.

The UFo Super Late Model trek will continue on Saturday, May 7 at Tyler County Speedway.  The “Topless 50” will be a UFo 2-late model division, Supernova event.  The UFo Super Late Models will race topless for 50 laps paying $3,000 to win, with the topless UFo Semi-Lates paying $1,000 for 33 laps.

The UFO race was excellent, in the Sprints, Aaron Ott ran off and hid for a 7 second victory over Doug Esh.  The Juniata County Fair Board has turned an old fairgrounds race track into a showplace.  Will make sure to get back there again this year.

The late model racing was great. The place is much racier than most tracks its size and it's a great facility. I would like to see more big late model shows there.

You have one, (raceover5), lol.

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.
