Harman and Lewis make return trips to Victory Lane, Blaney uses first trip to Waynesfield to cash in on NRA Money In the short history Waynesfield Motorsports Park had never held a sanctioned race on the “big track”. Well that history came to an end this Saturday when 2-Time All Star Circuit of Champions title winner Dale Blaney took the Ron Hammonds owned 360 to his second win of the weekend. First up for the evening would be the 360 sprints of the NRA Invaders, and while some of these teams simply take the wing off on Saturday after competing at Lima on Friday nights this would be the first trip to race at Waynesfield for many of the teams. Preliminary action would see Phil Gressman, Mike Dussel, Dale Blaney, and Mike Brecht taking heat race wins and then Kirk Jeffries and Kent Wolters won the two B-Mains. Even when the cars were pushing off there happened to be some bad news, and then some good news. Dustin Dinan who normally competes up north with his 305 made the show but couldn’t get the motor to fire giving his spot in the A to first alternate Mark Hery. At the drop of the green flag pole sitter Mike Dussel took the early lead over former teammate Mike Brecht with Phil Gressman right behind, and then Mike Miller and Dale Blaney trading slide jobs to round out the top-five. On lap seven though it would all come to a stop when Mike Brecht flipped his car in three and four taking the high line just under the wall while still running in the number two position. This would bring out the red flag and the drivers must have realized that with the feature pushing off just after 10 PM they had the opportunity to get home early because this was the last slow down for the show. After that Mike Dussel would leg out a large lead but with the help of lapped traffic which was thick, Phil Gressman and Dale Blaney, who had gotten away from the Miller machine, were closing the gap fast in the final few laps. On the back stretch just before two laps to go the Gressman car got under and then around the race long leader. The only problem was that Phil was not able to enjoy the lead for very long. Going into three and four on the last lap the “Tall Cool One” Dale Blaney used the high side to snatch the lead, trophy and cash from “Fast” Phil. “This is a really nice place that has a lot of room for us to race” said the Two Time All Star Champion. “With the way that the track was tonight it was hard to get off the top with my Appraisal Specialists, Texas Roadhouse car. “I had a night off from 410 racing so I brought my car owner George Fisher down here and used this as a test for the Speedweek show. With the trucks up next you could tell they were wanting to repeat the sprint feature with few cautions and great racing. With “Wild” Bill Harman starting up front he could see that green flag wanting to also be the first to see the checkered flag for the second week in a row. This would not be as easy as he wanted it to be. Running the first half of the race without a yellow Bill Harman stayed out front with Eric Sutter in second and Pete Zuppardo who has had the worst of luck recently was solidly in third. Then on the back stretch that all went away. The 11 of Ralph Shackleford got loose coming off of two sending him into the 31 of Danny Kelly effectively ended the night for both trucks. The excitement kept coming as Tim Dick then drove down the front side of the race track with the truck bed still there but most of it was now much closer to the cab of the truck after being smashed by another competitor. On lap 14 the fans then got a view of the underside of the 4 truck of Nathan Mailhot as he climbed the wall but did what was needed to keep the green flag out. With five fingers in the air from the flagman Pete Zuppardo was able to pass “Wild” Bill but a caution for Nathan Mailhot and Daniel Crowder negated the pass. It was also under this caution that the 31 of Danny Kelly who took that hard shot early in the race was pushed off of the track when his motor quit while running in the top-five. With two laps to go Nathan earned his way back to the pits bringing out his second yellow flag spinning around in turn two by himself. This would do nothing but slow down the repeat trip to Victory Lane for the wild one giving him another winner’s decal to place on the truck. “I had to drive harder than I ever have before.” I need to thank Skinny Kenny Photos and Lyn Lee Lanes for the help they give me. “You know Pete had me beat but that caution came out and he showed me the fast way around the track.” “The track was fantastic tonight I want to thank the fans for coming each week, without them showing up we wouldn’t get to race.” For the Modifieds the excitement started right at the drop of the green flag as the front half of the field were all scrambling for the top spot running four wide and three deep. Casey Ludeke would be the early leader with Bill Lewis and Chris Ullery settling in for second and third. The “Hot Rod Hippy” Bill Keeler would bring out the first caution for the modifieds spinning around in turn three early in the race. Once the green flag came out Bill Lewis had gotten tired of being in the second spot and grabbed the top spot exiting turn two. After getting the lead the Lewis machine pulled out to a big lead leaving Chris Ullery, Jon Henry, early leader Casey Ludeke, Gary Richard, and Josh Lolmaugh trading positions back and forth lap after lap. Unfortunately with five laps to go Josh Lolmaugh had to pull off of the track giving up his top-five spot. At the finish it was still Bill Lewis winning his second race in as many trips to the Waynesfield speedplant this year. “This is an awesome track and we really like it here” said the driver of the Jeremy Casterline owned race car. “This is a laid back atmosphere and I love coming here.” “I’m running for points at another track but I will be here as much as I can.” I need to thank my crew chief and Todd Sherman for selling me this car.” You know I heard horror stories about this place and right now none of them are true, this is a great place to race.” NRA Heat 1 1 Phil Gressman 2 Ron Blair 3 John Hawk 4 Dustin Keegan 5 Kirk Jeffries 6 Dustin Dinan 7 Aaron Moloney 8 Jimmy Oglesbee Heat 2 1 Mike Dussel 2 Mike Miller 3 Tim Allison 4 Dennis Yoakam 5 Mark Hery 6 Jim Dues 7 Kyle Conaway 8 Scott Carter 9 Darren Long Heat 3 1 Dale Blaney 2 Bryan Sebetto 3 Jared Horstman 4 Chad Gullett 5 Dennis Ward Jr 6 Andrew Bowsher 7 Nate Dussel Heat 4 1 Mike Brecht 2 Jeff Williams 3 Dwain Leiber 4 Mike Dunlap 5 Kent Wolters 6 Rick Boughan 7 Brent Gehr 8 Bob Gehr Jr B-Main 1 Kirk Jeffries 2 Dustin Dinan 3 Mark Hery 4 Scott Carter 5 Kyle Conaway 6 Randy Fusi 7 Aaron Moloney 8 Jimmy Oglesbee 9 Jim Dues B-Main 2 1 Kent Wolters 2 Dennis Ward Jr 3 Rick Boughan 4 Bob Gehr Jr 5 Brent Gehr 6 Nate Dussel NRA Sprint Invaders Feature 1 Dale Blaney 2 Phil Gressman 3 Mike Dussel 4 Mike Miller 5 Tim Allison 6 Ron Blair 7 Jared Horstman 8 Bryan Sebetto 9 Mark Hery 10 Jeff Williams 11 Mike Dunlap 12 Kent Wolters 13 Chad Gullett 14 Dwain Leiber 15 Kirk Jeffries 16 Dustin Keegan 17 Mike Brecht 18 John Hawk 19 Dennis Ward Jr 20 Dennis Yoakam Truck Heat 1 1 Bill Harman 2 Tom Williams 3 Pete Zuppardo 4 Daryl Brackney 5 Scott Fisher 6 Darrell Porter 7 Mike Hicks Heat 2 1 Eric Sutter 2 Danny Kelly 3 Darren Noffsinger 4 Denny Morelock 5 Sam Casey 6 Nathan Mailhot 7 Dave Voisard Heat 3 1 Ralph Shackelford 2 Jessica Nuss 3 Tim Dick 4 Bill Gross 5 Gabe Twining 6 Daniel Crowder B-Main 1 Mike Hicks 2 Dave Voisard 3 Nathan Mailhot 4 Tom Williams 5 Daniel Crowder 6 Darrell Porter Feature 1 Bill Harman 2 Pete Zuppardo 3 Eric Sutter 4 Scott Fisher 5 Gabe Twining 6 Darren Noffsinger 7 Dave Voisard 8 Daryl Brackney 9 Randy Crossley 10 Bill Gross 11 Sam Casey 12 Tom Williams 13 Darrell Porter 14 Nathan Mailhot 15 Danny Kelly 16 Daniel Crowder 17 Denny Morelock 18 Tim Dick 19 Mike Hicks 20 Ralph Shackleford Modifieds Heat 1 1 Jon Henry 2 Doug Hewitt Jr 3 Sammy Holcomb 4 Steve Duty 5 Mike Hohlburn 6 Brian Post 7 Buzz Jacobs 8 Andy Bibler 9 Jake Reafer Heat 2 1 Bill Lewis 2 Casey Luedeke 3 Josh Lolmaugh 4 Stan Smith 5 Brent Hole 6 Frank Luchini 7 Kelly Bowlby 8 Shawn McCombs 9 Josh Scott Heat 3 1 Chris Ullery 2 Chad Rosenbeck 3 Gary Richard 4 Todd Sherman 5 Nick Roslett 6 Bill Keeler 7 Tom Treon 8 Brandon Vaughn 9 Josh Stewart B-Main 1 Josh Scott 2 Bill Keeler 3 Frank Luchini 4 Tom Treon 5 Brian Post 6 Shawn McCombs 7 Josh Stewart 8 Brandon Vaughn 9 Kelly Bowlby 10 Buzz Jacobs 11 Andy Bibler 12 Jake Reafer Feature 1 Bill Lewis 2 Chris Ullery 3 Jon Henry 4 Gary Richard 5 Josh Scott 6 Casey Luedeke 7 Mike Hohlbern 8 Stan Smith 9 Steve Duty 10 Nick Roslett 11 Todd Sherman 12 Sammy Holcomb 13 Brent Hole 14 Chad Rosenbeck 15 Frank Luchini 16 Tom Treon 17 Brian Post 18 Josh Lolmaugh 19 Bill Keeler 20 Doug Hewitt Jr Be sure to check out our schedule to see that May 18-19 we will be having our 1st Annual Truck-Off, June 9th the NRA Invaders, and on Tuesday June 26 the third leg of Ohio Speedweek for the All Star Circuit of Champions.
