Lake, Gamola, Theys, Laughard, Smith & Smith Open Dog Hollow Point Season

STRONGSTOWN, PA (May 13, 2016) Friday the 13th didnt scare the fans and cars away as Dog Hollow Speedway opened its 2016 point season with 93 cars in the pits.

15 year old Michael Lake came from deep in the field to score the Dog Hollow Townsend Gas & Oil Super Late Model win. The visiting Laurel Highland 305 Sprints was won by Jacob Gamola while Mike Laughard claimed the Lias Tire CARS Crate Late Models. Kyle Smith, Jr. won his career first in the AMSOIL Pure Stocks and it was Nate Smith taking the RD Shaffer Well Services Street Stocks. Jack Theys won the best feature of the night scoring the FWD 4 Cylinders.

Devin Lewis took the lead at the drop of the green in the Townsend Gas & Oil Super Late Models. Lewis ran strong holding off Levi Sikora the first eight laps. Lake took second and then grabbed the lead on lap nine from his fourteenth starting spot. Lake pulled away through numerous yellows including one with two to go. This put Jared Miley on his back bumper. The Uniontown teenager kept his composure and held on for his first Dog Hollow Super Late Model win. Miley was second followed by Chad McClellan, Levi Sikora, Scott Rhodes, Lewis, Joe Martin, Dave Blazavich, John Wayne Weaver and Joe Petyak. McClellan, Miley and Rhodes were heat winners in the 24 car field.

Senecas Jacob Gamola used his outside pole start to his advantage. Gamola powered into the lead at the start and never looked back. Only one caution slowed the race on lap 14 but it wasnt enough to give Gamola a challenge as he drove to his second Dog Hollow win of his career. Ralph Engle, Jr. was second over Gary Kriess, Rob Felix, Jr., Ryan Lynn, Hunter McCracken, Joe Zap, Ron Aurand, Drew Ritchey and Steve Kenawell. Heats were won by Felix and McCracken.

The first four laps of the Lias Tire CARS Crate Late Models were led by Robert Cossell, who was making his return to dirt racing. Mike Laughard used the high line to make a pass in turn one to take the lead. Cossell stayed with him until Clint Hersh muscle by on lap 16. Hersh tried everything to get around Laughard but had to settle for second. Cossell, Jeremy Shaffer, Braeden Dillinger, Dave Blazavich, Jeff Compton, Joe Moyer, John Eckenrod and Jon Lee filled out the top ten. David Lee and Clint Hersh were the heat winners.

Easily the best feature of the night belonged to the FWD 4 Cylinders. Jack Theys, of South Fork, came from his third starting spot to take the lead on lap one. Pat Brehm and Jody Frantz had other plans as the trio raced high and low looking for an advantage. When the drivers came for the two to go sign Frantz put a slide job on Theys entering turn one to take the lead for a few feet. Frantz went in so hard he slid up and Theys drove right back past him to hold off Brehm the final two laps for the win. Brehm, Frantz, Zack Wissinger and Mike Phillipson were the top five. Sixth through tenth were Jesse Laughard, Cody Young, Dylan Young, Lance Kough and Chris Dodson. Heat checkers went to Brehm and Theys.

The 15-lap AMSOIL Pure Stock feature was another exciting race with Windbers Kyle Smith, Jr. picking up his career first feature win. Smith did in dramatic fashion passing race long leader Brad Benton on the final lap in turn two. Benton was second over Tyler Wagner, Duke Davidson, Brian Savino, Rich Wicker, Shane Nihart, Brad Nesline, Ben Franklin and Jeff Shaffer, Jr.

Nate Smith, of Glen Campbell, scored his second win of the season at Dog Hollow in the RD Shaffer Well Service Street Stocks. Smith passed leader Ray Hickok, Jr. on lap three and sped away to victory. Hickok, Luke Barnett, Ryan Sager, Brian Weyant, Ray Reynolds, Mike Mellot and Brett Bingaman rounded out the field.
