Maybe nascar should learn a lesson from them on how to bring fans in by getting back to the basics of racing instead of trying to manipulate the racing so much that it is driving fans away in droves.

Its the first time it has sold out in like 60 years. Lets pump the brakes and chalk it up to the novelty of being the 100th running of the thing and not that they have a secret formula figured out.

Seems like the USA TODAY is giving the Indy 500 much more coverage than usual this year.  However, doubt I'll watch.  Lost interest in Indy Cars when all the foreign drivers came in!!!  More interested in who wins the stocks at Lernerville tomorrow night!!

GOOD RACING TO ALL!!!

Amen Walt, thought you defected on us there for a moment.

On that note and not to be insensitive but who is doing the announcing?

How about a golden moment.  Cover the tv and just listen to it.

It's the novelty of the anniversary.  Even NASCAR in its current state is a much more entertaining package than Indy.   NASCAR has more side by side racing.  At Indy, the fans can't even see the entire track.

Last time I went to Indy, was 1965.  That was the end of an era.  No more roadsters, the end of the Novi.  Long live the old times.

The merchandise vendors selling 100 year crap will be everywhere. As for the racing. I agree with walt.

That is funny because Boy George Got the raines to mandate His "chassis" that sent andrettis / unsers etc etc packing .. The indy 500 was a joke for many years .. The " Indy 500 " sold out the seats not boy George !

Foreigner drivers were at the 500 from the beginning, winning some of the early ones.  But to answer your question, in the years 1927, 1928, 1931, 1934-1939, 1950, 1951, 1953-1960, 1962, and 1972, the Indy 500 had only American drivers.

A better second question would have been, is this when you realized that you are a bigot?

If at first you don't succeed, then maybe you just suck.

Unfortunately, for me anyhow, INDY lost it's luster when guys like Foyt, Unser, Andretti and many many more could not keep up with the younger guys any longer. I don't think talent was the issue. It became clear the technology was passing them bye. The chassis took away that feel. It was no longer how deep can you drive it in the corner. INDY today is won with who has the best engineering team. But, so has all other major forms of motorsports. There is no more little guy, they just don't have the top engineers.

You were actually proving my point... I was more appalled by the fact that Walt said this first, and was replying to him if you look a few posts up.

I am fine with the foreign drivers they are some of the best in the world, apparently he is the one with the issue lol.

I understand how the message board works in regards to the vertical chronology of the replies.

We are on the same page; my last sentence was a suggestion for your original reply.

Hopefully I don't get beat up for using touche since it has foreign origins
