Mike Pegher Jr., in the Cochran 1C, won the Late Model feature and a guaranteed starting sport in next week's Firecracker, beating early leader Russ King, Dave Hess Jr., Alex Ferree, and Michael Norris.  Sixteen Late Models tonight.

I loved the pass Pegher put on King for the lead.  He dove under him, started to wash up the track, threw it hard to stay off of King straightened it out and ran away.

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

He (Pegher)  was one of the fastest cars at the Herb Scott Memorial last week in his heat race, but mechanical problems put him on the sideline.
