Scott Bloomquist becomes the first three-time winner of the Firecracker 100

Richards and McDowell score podium finishes

Sarver, PA (June 25, 2016)  Scott Bloomquist went three-for-three in heat race action this weekend and then became the first three-time winner of the Firecracker 100 presented by GottaRace.com.  After starting eighth on the starting grid by way of the Craftsman Tools redraw, Bloomquist patiently made his way to the front and eventually ran down and passed Dale McDowell on lap 54.  Josh Richards also made his way around McDowell, but was never able to pose a serious challenge to Bloomquist in the closing laps.

Austin Smith capped the three-day weekend with a $3,000 win in the Uncle Sam 30 Non-Qualifiers race with a dominant performance.  Matt Lux raced his way to a second place finish in the Detman #111.

30,000 excellent reason why the appeal was a good idea.

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

It's a shame more locals don't support this event.

I kind of thought the same thing, but after watching Friday night's show, the cars that were there made a perfect show. It's refreshing to watch professionals that don't spin every other lap and don't get emotional and wreck guys for putting a slide job on them the lap before. There were some local/regional guys I would have liked to have seen, but the show certainly didn't suffer for it.

I never got to see the race's on Saturday at all. I had tickets for all three days for both me and my wife. It's our wedding anniversary/vacation. (6/25/09). I got up and loaded the car up with ribeye steaks, bbq grill, cooler of water, some pork and beans. All the plates, silverware, etc. And 20 minutes later my acute diverticulitis kicked in and I was in bed throwing up for 15 hours straight! I never made it out of the garage!

I lost 8 pounds of body weight. It's absolutely horrible. I have missed the first day of the Firecracker 100 before, and the last time there was a double feature in the same day, I missed it too. In the last two years, I have lost 80 pounds. Hospitalized 18 times last year, 8 times this year.

Why am I wining on here? I'm hoping that maybe Lernerville would have a little sympathy for me and give me and my wife complimentary tickets to the working man 50. It would be a way to make up to my wife.

Or maybe a complimentary viewing from Dirtvision?

Unfortunately I don't have medical insurance. And I refuse to get Obama care! What I really need is surgery to eliminate the problem, but I cant afford insurance, rent, phone , etc. I'm thinking of looking into a go fund me page. This sickness has got to stop. It's killing me.

Any body have a solution? It's worth a shot.

Unfortunatley the Firecracker has lost its flare and the field of cars has become increasingly weaker each year. It now seems like more of a regional event than a national event. It's not Lernerville's fault; it's just that the Outlaws have lost a lot of quality cars to the Lucas series and other top drivers have decided not to attend the Firecracker the past few years (Mars, Owens, O'Neal, Landers, Bobby Pearce, Brandon Shepherd, etc).

Mars is rarely competitive anywhere anymore. Owens came once. Landers came once. Pierce, Sheppard, and O'Neal have never come.

While the car count was on the small end, it was very deep. There really wasn't any dudes without a prayers chance in hell of making the show like there was in previous years.

I suppose you're right.. but I just remember the days when Brian Birkhofer was running (and won) the Uncle Same 30, and now you have 13 or 14 cars in it. The Uncle Sam used to be a pretty damn good race between locals and regionals. Now its a few locals against "national" guys that have never been to Lernerville

Car count was 50, down up four from last year with threatening weather.  The record car count was 62 in 2008. Most years the count has run from 55 to 60, so down a tad, but still pretty darn good when you consider many local tracks are pulling just 16-18 cars for their weekly Late Model shows.  And there have been some nights much lower than that at some tracks!!

GOOD RACING TO ALL!!!

You have $ for race tickets, steaks, internet service...and not health insurance? I feel for you and understand what your illness entails, but from what I take from your post, is your priorities are a little out of order. Do you want to see races or be alive for your wife? The Lord helps those who help themselves. Good luck to you.Why don't you get medicaid? Or universal health care? Or just get it done and forget about the bill if you have nothing left to be taken from you? Are you able to work?

It would be nice to see the firecracker become a Lucas race. Would it draw more cars ? Who knows ! The Lucas series, right now, has the drivers everyone wants to see. With Lernerville's location and the big pay out races that happen in Ohio it makes one wonder if you could go back to back weekends with one of those shows. The locals guys are doing what they can to keep cars on the race track 1 night a week as it is. Many look at it as not having a chance and don't want to get equipment used up. Making a extra distance race uses up equipment. Especially motors.

The days of 75-100 car fields for this kind of show are past. 50 cars for any show is a great field. Maybe if the show was moved to the fall a few more regional/area racers would show, but I doubt the field would get much bigger, maybe 60ish. Switching to Lucas, may give you some different cars, but I doubt if the field would swell up. A $50,000 to win Lucas race this past May at Atomic in OH only brought in 50 cars. $20,000 more to win, but still the same count as Lernerville. One of the problems getting more locals/regional racers at these bigger shows, is the cost and what chance they have of making show and/or money. Both the Outlaws and Lucas cater to their regulars, so spots for others are scarcer. I also thought about the comment about who else of the regional/local drivers that could have been there. Off the top of my head, Max Blair and Keith Barbara are two, but both don't seem to like the place, even though both have won races there. Kenny Hardy is another regional that I thought might be there. His wins at the Knob and Dog Hollow got him familiar to local fans, and he had a solid run in his first effort at PPMS a few weeks ago. Maybe Tim Dohm after his big win at the Jackpot .WoO race a few weeks ago. Maybe a couple PPMS guys or Micheal Davis, Devin Moran. I was really struggling to come up with many more.

It would be cool to have some sort of WoO vs Lucas show with different incentives and bonuses for whatever series won.

There has been some chatter about the two series working together for some races.
